Is that the air injection pump or fuel injection pump? I having the same problems. Once I get it started it will start up fine throughout the day and only when it sits over-night then it will start hard like that again.

Nothing wrong with the pump. Timing is off. Just a small movement in pump position will make a very big difference...go from this to perfect in one or two degrees.

Turned out this was caused by a failing injection pump and poor timing.

What does your Skoda start like when it is really cold if you haven't used it for two or three days? Do you find it takes a lot of attempts before it will fire up?

If it stayed one day it was the same like if it stayed one week, the engine starting process was the same. Now I changed the glow plug relay and it starts immediately in very cold conditions; all problems are gone.

Apparently, the glow plug relay is not working... that's the problem, the guys from the car service identified it.

Hi same problem since I bought the car off my mate. immobiliser wiring fault so I bought a drive box ODB EDC 15 /ME7 off Ebay £10.00 :) works on the key every time rev counter doing the same try cleaning your wire contacts on top the battery .red black wire me thinks?

Just to update I have fixed this. There was a corroding cable on the starter motor and gearbox that needed a little clean up. A "bad ground"
