Actually the reason why you put oil on the new o-ring is the same why you put it on the older style filters it's to create a good seal, so you can use old oil it wont harm anything.

For the ex-NYC/ex-PC/ex-Conrail now CSX Mohawk Sub, if I do stay put the usual place is the Budget Inn at Palatine Bridge, NY. As for the ex-PRR/ex-PC/ex-Conrail now NS PITL, I stay in one of the chained motels at Altoona, PA. I haven't tried it before, but I've heard a lot of good things about the Station Inn at Cresson, for me it's a bit high and I always try to be budget-conscious.
