But as a scientist, I'm sure he would be the first to tell you that everything he says is tentative: It could be changed with more or better data. And the other thing is, he's speaking in front of a large crowd, so of course he's trying to make it humorous. And he's "speaking to the choir", so to speak, so he doesn't need to phrase his words in a neutral way as he might if he were just speaking at a high school or something.I can see, though, where he might seem to be a bit cocky. Those beliefs are just a simple circumstance of being born into a particular belief system with particular beliefs. You could just as easily have been born somewhere else in the world, in which case you would very likely have very different beliefs. So how sure can you be that your beliefs are the "correct" beliefs? It is literally a crap shoot.Science on the other hand, proceeds from nothing (no preconceived 'beliefs' other than hypotheses) and moves towards the answer no matter where it leads. That is why Neil Tyson speaks with conviction: He has the data, evidence and history to back it up.JW3HH

+Tyson Collier there are many studies on and being done. Lawrence crauss being one of the physicist doing it on dark matter and quantum physics. Theses aren't completely unknown things theyre being studied. Yea there's no 100% conclusive evidence on all the stuff but they have leads here and there and reasons. I trust their knowledge and integrity.

The unknowns in science such as effects in particle physics and quantum mechaincs and such things like dark energy, dark matter, black holes and absolutely everything else including the big bang are all completely theorised parts of science due to mathematical difference in equations. I am simply saying that the Dr does one of the best jobs by trying to explain these things when in reality he doesn't know what he is talking about. Just ideas and theories but he speaks as if it is absolute truth.
