Casa Loma's tremendous pre-Swing Era popularity was well-deserved, as this excellent side attests. A very fine band capable of capturing a variety of moods.

Yes, it was the "Oh, Johnny" type stuff that really sold.  ... Both "For You" and "No Name Jive," representing the opposite ends of Casa Loma's stylistic breadth, are great records.

+Trombonology ErstwhileI agree There popularity was not the same as before but I don't think there were many that sold more records then they did.The Decca recording of "For You" and the great "No Name Jive" were big sellers. Actually the biggest sellers were the straight and mickey mouse bands.

True.  I believe their period of greatest prominence, though, to have been before the dawn of the Swing Era.  They were pushed aside a bit, I think, in favor of Goodman, T. Dorsey, Shaw and the many other newer orchestras.

I have an original 4x6' picture-poster..all signed by Peewee Hunt, Billy Rauch, Sonny Duncan, Grady Watts, & one other..original from the early 1900's. Were do I go to get a value on this?? It's in the original 1900's frame.. plz email me..homesbylorrie at aol.com

It took me awhile but I now have all the Okeh and Harmony releases. Have not bothered with the Parlophones, they're not interesting enough to warrent the high price tag.

Love this version with the trombone lead and heavy bass lines. These early Okeh's are hard to come by.

I used to own this record about 50 years ago....even then the 78 played well ... Wonderful rendition .

Casa Loma swung no matter if they used a tuba or string bass. I love these early Okeh's as well!
