Thanks for watching it really means a lot. I just hope i don't have to many problems that pop up during the build. So far so good.
Valve job lapping valves part 1, using a valve spring compressor
Part 1 of 2 videos going over the basics of removing a valve from a 4 cycle engine. Inspecting the valve seats and lapping the seats with valve grinding ...
The "tool" was made with a couple things I had laying around. I used a 1/2"
black pipe coupling and a 1/2" black pipe nipple...same stuff used for the
gas pipe on homes. I threaded them together then cut the coupling down and
started cutting the nipple till it fit. I used a 4" angle grinder with a
cutting disk
Using the tool you have there. Ive seen a few trick homemade lever clamps
used for this too- but it has to be jigged up proper. Learned that trick
from an aircraft mechanic cutting time off his flat rates.
There's a way qucker way to do this. Ball up a sock and set the head on top
of it, then use a hammer and socket to pop the collets. Use a socket close
to the outter diameter of the keeper washer.
@HeavyMetalMike666 What I ended up doing was getting one of those big ones
that looks like an oversized C-Clamp with a trigger. Even with a tool like
that i still had problems compressing some stubborn(rusted) springs, so
what I ended up doing was using the same hex tool and a sledge hammer along
with the compressor holding the spring. As destructive as this method
sounds, it worked fairly well. The springs I have support up to .600" lift
, so I had to use a different method.
Wow, I have an OEM valve spring compressor(auto zone) as well and I was
like man there's got to be a better way. I've just found it thanks to you
sir. I have a similar magnet except mine is just round, no hex. I'll have
to try this when I get home. BTW great instrumental. Mob Deep classic FTW.
you my friend have just saved a honda enthusiast some money! :) thanks a
bunch! hate having to fish a magnet through a spring compressor to get
those retainers out. but how do we get them back in after this? lol
This shit works. 100% i just did mines Today september 23, 2012. Took me
less than 30min to do all springs. Just apply alot of pressure and you'll b
koo. Thanks Bro.
unfortunately, getting them back in can't be done with this tool. that
would probably be easiest with one of those tools that goes around the
entire head.
Use the installer part of the tool to put everything back together. I have
a second video showing just how easy it is to do using the very same tool
you used to take everything apart.
Blue Point tools can be purchased at any Snap On too jobber. I replaced the
spark plugs, cam plugs, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, Tbelt and h2o pump
while i was in there.
