Sears & Roebuck Merchandise Building Roosevelt Boulevard PA.
Some footage of the Old Sears & Roebuck Merchandise Building Roosevelt Boulevard Philadelphia Pennsylvania with the fire that happen a month before it ...
I used to work there part time in 1989-1990 as a binloader. It was the most
fun job I've ever had and if they didn't "downsize", I'd STILL be working
there! It's kinda hard to tell how MASSIVE that building was! On the 8th
floor, where I worked, it could take you a loooong time to walk from the
front to the back! It also amazed me that you could see Center City and the
3 Cederbrook (near where I live) apartment towers from there! Beautiful
wood floors, high ceilings, thick columns... *cries*
Sounds cool - I wish I worked on that floor! Not in the section I worked,
but they had Sega Genesis consoles on my floor - I worked with a couple of
guys who used to steal 'em by tucking 'em under their shirts... One day, we
were walkin' out the front door when we got stopped by security. Needless
to say - GAME OVER! Lucky for me, I wasn't into stealing, so I didn't have
anything on me. They, on the other hand, got locked-up and fired! They
must've thought nobody was paying attention...
I don't ever remember a christmas tree there but do you remember the giant
red telephone near the roof on the side of the warehouse? and of course the
smell of the pretzels and popcorn when you walked in and the ball that the
vacum cleaners would keep spinning and floating in the air for display! It
really sadden me and alot of people I know who just loved that building
when it came down
I grew up in Summerdale (1973-1987) before moving to Bustleton. The
implosion of the Sears Tower was the end of Summerdale and Oxford Circle.
The neighborhoods there are now dead. The Ebonic Plague has taken over and
is spreading all over the Northeast. Sad to see it go, but I'm glad my
White ass it out of there.
I worked on the 9th floor we useto ride the go-carts and the mini bikes in
section 9 we worked in section 7 we used to ride them down the isle THATS
HOW BIG THIS PLACE WAS!, imagine a kid looking at 75 mini bikes and 75 go
carts and no ones around...just one story...
Great video and commentary. The stories you have of this place from when
you were younger remind me exactly of the type of stories I have of what my
friends and I did at Byberry/Philadelphia State Hospital before it was
demolished.
Damn i remember sears and damn it been 20 years since the last day being
up. i live not to far from there i say about 10 mins walk from where i
live. i remember meeting Santa and getting my picture taken there.
I'm waiting for Julius the alleged "retard" to come on here and say that he
remembers the old Sears building and remembers the newscast...when in
reality, he wasn't even born yet when all this happened.
Remember this well. Stood across the Blvd. by friends hospital with our
police/fire scanners watching it. Then when they imploded it we watched it
from Cardinal Dougherty High's field.
I never knew that it was on fire !! I used to work there after work
1079-1981. Was promoted to "Red badge" Employee 48587. Had to enter it
everytime I made a sale !!!!!!
That was sad. It was a beautiful store they allowed to fall into
disrepair... granite floors... marble walls... now it's an ugly strip mall.
Cheesy at best. The fire damage could have been fixed. Don't let them fool
you. It wasn't about a tradition and a "landmark" in the neighborhood... it
was all about the money.
