A Level Physics - The de Broglie Wavelength and Wave Particle Duality
If waves can sometimes exhibit particle like properties, does that mean that electrons that we have always through of as particles also behave as waves?
Wow, thank you for taking the time to make these videos. As someone who
regrets not taking proper A-levels (and seeing how much it costs to take
them as an adult) this is the perfect in-between for me. I feel sad that,
like many school leavers, I never really knew about these fundamental
scientific concepts (which affect our everyday life).
My plan is to finish off the AS content, then do the full A2 course (and all the options) as well as a guide on how to do the practical work. Keep watching to see the new videos I add.

+darchapo "Ummm, because self-determination is the province of nations and peoples, not religions."blame the WNs who never accepted them as the part of the German / Polish / Hungarian nation... how could you except someone to feel like the part of a community that rejects him?
+rzutr fehgtr Ummm, because self-determination is the province of nations and peoples, not religions. No one is demanding a special country just for Catholics, Hindus, Jains…. The countries that exist that are predominantly of one religion are, unlike Israel, states of all their citizens, not just a privileged group.
So your idea of a counter argument is to merely stick your fingers in your ears and yell "la-la-la-la".As a wise philosopher once said: "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try."The people who were shoved off, by the west, to form the State of Israel, had been there since the Persians drove of the remainder of the Roman Empire back to their last bastion - Constantinople. These are the same people that were ravaged in the first crusade, the same people who eventually drove the fanatical crusaders back to Europe, then held fast through all the remaining crusades.Yes, they've been there for hundreds of years and nothing was given to them on a silver platter.
+braeddie too long, didn't read it allanyway you're wrong, they tried to fight back, your point seems to be that "Palestinians" were living there for hundreds of year, this implies that all Israel has to do is stay there for hundreds of years and then it will have the right to exist, right?
+rzutr fehgtr Well, they forfeit their country 2000 years ago, when the Romans exiled them. They didn't try to fight back, unlike the previous times when they were conquered by the Assyrians and Babylonians, but fought back and retook their land. If by your logic they should get their land back, just because they used to live their and some evil big empired kicked them out, you should also agree that Natives of other countries should be handed their lands back as well. I.e. Natives of North America should be given the USA and Canada, Australia back to the aborigines, New Zealand back to the Mauri's, etc. Basically, every single country that is a spawn of Western European colonisation, should be undone and all peoples from Western European origin, must be displaced back to Europe. The majority of the countries at the head of the world today, are countries that were conquered and colonised, and there is no chance these countries will ever be returned to its original people. That's how conquest works. Why should it be any different for the Jewish people?I don't have a problem with the Jewish people, as a people, but the State of Israel is committing atrocities that makes South Africa's apartheid regime seem humanitarian in comparison. Jewish people are not the problem. Racial policies of Israel, however, are pretty fucking abhorrent. Essentially, the winners of WW1, displaced a settled people from the area of Judea and allow a group of people, a minority, to govern the destiny of an now oppressed minority. The Arabs should have 22 countries, because it is their land and has been their land for several thousand years. They fought back against the encroachment of the Greeks, then against the Romans. They earned and paid for their 22 countries in blood. Did the same happen to the new settlers of Judea? No, they were given a country on a silver platter by Western Europe, who also betrayed their Arab allies who fought against the Ottoman Empire. You ask: What makes the jewish people inferior? When the question you should be asking is: What makes them superior to the people of palestine, the people who had lived for 2000 years on a piece of land that was yanked away from them and given to outsiders?
+rzutr fehgtr Jews have several countries. New York is the largest, and they own most of the property and big businesses, so don't tell me they're an oppressed people because that's bologna.
+Cheryl Moniz why? how are they any worse than, say, me - a Hungarian, or an American, or the Arabs? What makes the Arabs worthy of having 22 countries if the Jews don't deserve a singe one? What makes the Jews inferior, besides Hitler's "untermensch" bullshit?
+Karl Simms That's pretty ignorant, since Muslims (Arabs alone actually) killed much more people in the last 10 years than the Zionists since the creation of Israel and political Zionism.
unfortunately it doesnt matter how nice or eloquent he was in his writings,
at the end of the day he was writing about the colonization of a land that
had people living in it for thousands of years, now that is not nice...
+MrAugustus The criteria for being a people are a common territory, a common language, a common history and a common culture. Palestine's Christians and Muslims meet these criteria; Jews do not meet a single one.
+perfect1oNN Can the Irish colonize Ireland? Can the Greeks colonize Greece? I don't think so. You can't "colonize" a land that you have every historical, cultural and indigenous right to be in.
+MrAugustus Well, what about the Arabs that Israel has been slaughtering since the inception of their ridiculous state. What about the people of Gaza and the West Bank? They're not jewish nor are Israelis. Stop making a fool out yourself you brainwashed fuck
These French Revolution videos are not bad, but really you should go into
much more detail as this is a very brief overview. In Australia the typical
VCE course on the French Revolution goes for half a year and is split into
two Areas of Study. AOS 1: 1781 (Neckers Compte Rendu) to 1789 (August 4th
the day before the August Decrees) and AOS 2: 1789 (August 5th The August
Decrees) to 1795 (The Directory). The added detail is very important to
understanding the French Rev.
oh my gosh! these french revolution videos are saving my life!! thank you
soo much~!! i missed school this week and i was so confused on what to do
and im working on a 240 point project and i didn't get to read the book,
and we canno't bring them home! i am in high school, and there's not enough
books to bring home...and my project is due tomrorrow! so thank you so
much!!! Other internet sources didn't give direcct info like this,,so thank
you very much!!
This man is unstoppable; which is a good thing. Everyone should write to
those people who have won Nobel prizes and have Professor Khan nominated
for the next one. I've written to former President Carter and he said he
would. I guess I need to write to President Obama. The rules are only
presidents of universities and former receivers of the prize can nominate
someone for this great honor. Please keep sending those emails ladies and
gentlemen.
The Holy Roman Empire was so called because it dates from Charlemagne's
Empire in the 9th century (actually it is one of the successors of
Charlemagne's empire) who had the title of Emperor of the Romans as well as
King of the Franks, his tribe. This empire was "Holy Roman" because it had
the benediction of the Pope in Rome.
@spaceghost1313 It was called the Kingdom of Great Britain at the time
(since the Act of Union in 1707), so he is absolutely correct to call it
that. In fact, Germans still refer to the UK as "Grossbritannien" and very
rarely call it "Vereinigtes Koenigreich" (=United Kingdom). Might be
similar in other countries too.
It would have been a nice touch if he mentioned that Champ-de-Mars massacre
happened under the command of Lafayette. It might blow people's mind in the
US, considering how positive a character he's been in the context of the
American Revolutionary War, that in France he was seen by many as a figure
of oppression.
Also check out the you-tube video "John Law and the MIssissippi bubble"--a
huge ponzi scheme that nearly bankrupted France and helped to lead to the
French Revolution. Another incident that may have led to the French
Revolution is dramatized in the Hilary Swank movie "Affair of the
Necklace."
The guy is just fucking amazing, and is a fucking inspiration to man kind.
Sal was just placed on this planet to fix and revolutionize education. Oh,
and I really wanted to say this, but no need for the history channel now
lol.
@PhotoPlankton yea france calls us grande bretagne still. weird
coincidence, I was reading about kindgom of britain today. youre right ,it
was called that till 1800. so 1 year after it chnaged
As a French one thing made me laugh. "the émigrés... I know I'm not
pronnoncing that right"... well actually you are ^^ (not so much the other
French parts though)
I am the happiest person probably here, i stop by to check everyday if he
has uploaded new videos or not and when i saw he has done history, I was
just flying....
What is the program or hardware that you are using to make these videos? I
want something like that for my classroom.

Physics - Modern Physics (11 of 26) The de Broglie Wavelength
Visit //ilectureonline.com for more math and science lectures! In this video I will show you how to use de Broglie method to calculate the wavelength of a ...
The limit is "limited" by our ability to measure or observe it.Take a look at the Schroedinger equation and the probability density function. I made a set of videos about that in the chemistry series.
i have to calculate the de Broglie wavelenght for electron with Kinetic
Energy 1Mev :
i tried all equation i found in the internet for this relativistic case and
i get 1.22 * 10^-12 m
the answer is 8.7 * 10^-13 m
+azndogeater First visitor here..LOL trying to get the intuition for calculating wavelengths..and stumbled here..! automatic subscribe!! hes really good. Reminds me of sal.. Salmon khan* a little.
+Jim Dear I am fairly sure that my physics book has written the pronunciation as "de-broy".But it doesn't really matter as long as the name is obvious from the context. =P
Dude PLEASE do more of these understanding art episodes on these kinds of
painting, I think it's renaissance? I don't really know man I just love the
way these painting look and hearing you explain WHY they look so good make
them even better, thanks for these man, really good projects
+lifeasleo nerdwriter1 does a great job analyzing paintings through history. I'd recommend you keep watching them. However, I'd also recommend finding information about it on the Internet through reliable sources. Occasional trips to a nearby art institute isn't a bad idea either.
+Xavi Omar de la Rosa totally agre. fucking art snobs. art is for everyone whether you understand it or not. That's why I'm more into street artist. faceless geniuses who give their art to the world. And to those trolls no I don't mean just graffiti do some research
what books do you recommend man, I dont LOVE art I'm more interested in how these artists use shapes colours mathematics etc to compose their images (especially in these looking paintings, I dont know the actual word but I do know most renaissance paintings have the look) as I am very into cinematography, but, I prefer this format though so if there's like any cool videos or something I prefer to learn that way?
+lifeasleo The painting is clearly not renaissance, look at the date, 1787. If you like these type of paintings so much, do yourself a favor, read a book on the subject or go to a museum, don't depend on youtube videos to tell you everything.
Why can't an artist just be good? Intuitively doing stuff that you muggles
look at, or hear, or watch, and say "Awww"? If you analyze the daylights
out of something it is still going to be just something.I am an artist.
People have looked at my stuff the3 same way as this video. All the praise
and trying to figure out is embarrassing It is easier fore mew to roof for
a living than to deal with you sycophants!
I think what you are not realizing is that an artist can be good for one of two reasons: either the style/form of art is appealing, or the symbolic gesture of the piece of art is contemplative. In this case. I think both work for this painter. The physical realm of just experiencing the art is incredible and is more than enough to make one feel, but the metaphysical experience of interacting with art, as is done here, to make an analysis that transcends the page is another way to find pleasure in its viewing. One does not mean more than the other, as both have the same end-goal: to create some reaction in the viewer. :)
Let's assume that he IS overthinking art. What is the harm in it? Especially for this piece in particular, no negative effects come to fruition from the analysis of its structure and style. In most things, analysis opens the door to a greater, more steadfast understanding of truth and a sense of objectivity in a profoundly subjective world. I don't think he's over-analyzing it, but even if he was, I don't think it is a bad thjbg
nerdwriter1, how do you know so much about so many things? I see you
analyzing film, history, philosophy, etc, so well. when I research things,
my analysis of these things pales in comparison to your excellent analysis.
my writing is okay, but I want to be able to write so elegantly. I try to
do things like increase my vocabulary. I mean come on I'm a writer. maybe I
should wait until I get into university to worry about my writing. what do
you think?
+Omar Garad You should absolutely start writing now but realize just how much growth you'll go through in Uni. I am an Electrical Engineer by degree but throughout college I played around in so many "arts" classes for fun. From actually reading the suggested readings in writing and speech classes, deeper listening in music history classes, traveling to certain sites during architectural analysis, and so many logic and philosophy classes....I was taught just the very skin of these subjects, but it didn't end there. I was taught how to study these subjects, how to question their topics, and how to dissect the discussions. I learned how to learn in college.Furthermore, and I guess this is how a Film major such as +Nerdwriter1 learns about these subjects, I gained contacts. They're useful for so much more than just getting a job. The classmates you meet in various subjects, the people you meet on campus, the teachers who inspire you...these are all people who are so much more knowledgeable than you on certain subjects. I have a friend who is an expert on specific years of maritime history, another friend who is now an lighting and interior designer for a large firm, a friend who works at The Getty in LA, a professor who analysis my writing (for a personal blog) when I ask, and a philosophy professor that I still keep in contact with to this day almost 6 years after I've graduated. The point is that I can easily and without hesitation turn to these experts and gain either a deeper understanding and critique of my questions or learn either who or where I can go to continue to learn about my questions. This is the power of contacts and friends; this is the benefit from going to a place like college. While in college you don't just pay for a degree, you don't just work hard and study for a degree. You are taught how to learn, you're taught how to question the things around you, you're taught how to use your resources to get your answer, and you're taught how to teach. I suppose its all these lessons and resources that get put to use during those "50+" hours a week that +Nerdwriter1 puts into his videos and no doubt you will eventually use them too.
