Installing Windows 8 Pro x64 RTM on an HP Pavilion DV4 using WDS (Windows Deployment Services)
In honor of Windows 8 official release. I have decided to install Windows 8 Pro RTM x64 on an HP Pavilion DV4 using WDS (Windows Deployment Services).
I think there maybe some confusion here between "Windows 8 RTM" and
"Windows RT". Windows 8 RTM = Windows 8 Release to Manufacturing, which is
a final version of Windows 8 that Microsoft made available before October
25th to PC Manufacturers (Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, etc...) and also MSDN,
Technet and Volume Licensing subscribers. This is the same version of
Windows that you can purchase alone (as installation media, box with
installation DVD) or
(you will not be allowed to install these kinds of applications on Windows
RT), and the fact that Windows RT is running on the ARM processor is also
another big difference, also battery life will supposedly be longer on
Windows RT devices but will probably lag behind in performance when
compared to Windows 8 devices based on x86 processors (Intel, AMD), this
version of Windows comes with Microsoft Office. Thanks!
preinstalled on an Intel or AMD (x86) based device (desktop, laptop or
tablet). This version of Windows allows you to install "legacy" or
"Desktop" applications. Windows RT = (Windows on ARM or WOA) is a version
of Windows 8 made for the ARM processor. It looks, works and feels exactly
like Windows 8 however the main difference between RT and Windows 8 is the
lack of "Legacy" and "Desktop" application support
Yes, RTM = Release To Manufacturing, so it's pretty much the final version
of Windows that Microsoft makes available to PC manufacturers (HP, Dell,
Lenovo, etc...) so they can pre-install it on their systems then they sell
it to consumers. So this version that I installed was Windows 8 Pro RTM.
Thanks!
