2012 Polaris RZR XP4 900 Engine Problems

Backfiring USUALLY happens when unburnt fuel exhausts from the engine, and
is ignited back down the exhaust pipe (backfire). Backfiring is USUALLY a
result of incorrect engine timing. What happens is sense the timing is
slightly off, the exhaust is released early and then ignited upon exit,
making the explosion more audible than if it were contained in the
cylinder. Incorrect engine timing would seem unlikely for that new of a
machine if untouched, however, that specific model of Polaris rzr has a
known defect with faulty camshaft lobes, in which most cases, wear down
excessively and prematurely, causing the valves to be actuated at the wrong
times, so it's not really a timing issue, it's an issue with your camshaft
lobes, which this is one of the common complaints of customers affected by
this defective part. Only on some engines does it do this, even though they
are the same model engines, only a few do this, just because Polaris used
that specific camshaft for a certain amount of production time. You should
defiantly try to see if your warranty covers this, if not, it is a very
costly repair, so I would check with someone of higher knowledge first.
Good luck. zc

Quick question for anybody that knows....How often are the dies used in a
tap and die set, in the atv/utv/lawn equipment repair world? I know taps
are used often, but does a repairman ever even use dies? Just answer me
directly so theres not a long discussion under this video. Thanks a lot
y'all.
Thanks D-ray. I'm just starting out trying to teach myself OPE repair work. I knew I would need taps for stripped bolt holes, but I wondered if I could get away with not having dies. Since taps come in helicoil kits, I thought i could cut corners for cheap and do without a kit. I went ahead and invested in a gearwrench 75 piece kit.
+marklamiss I use taps and dies often, usually just cleaning up threads on a damaged bolt, or a hole that someone has cross threaded a bolt into.
