Bob McAdoo is probably 1 of the top 25-30 players in NBA history, and he
didn't even make the "top 50." This is a guy who averaged over 23 points
and 8 rebounds a game for 9 straight seasons. Over 30 pts and 12 boards a
game for 3 straight years. He played against a lot of great players.
Multiple scoring titles, an MVP, 2 NBA championships. One of the most
disrespected players ever. Truly a great.
Lakers acquiring McAdoo after being outed by a Moses Malone-led Rockets
team back during the '80-'81 season was similar to the Lakers acquiring Pau
Gasol from the Grizzlies halfway through the '07-'08 season. With McAdoo,
Lakers went to the Finals 4 straight times winning two of them. With Gasol,
Lakers have gone to the Finals 3 straight times winning two of them. Deja
vu, anyone??? lol
A perennial All-Pro power forward, 3 scoring titles, Rookie of the Year,
NBA's Most Valuable Player, and two NBA World Championship rings..a 2000
inductee into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame..a shame he wasn't named one
of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history..
I wore #11 in school because I was a McAdoo fan. This is even before he
went to the Knicks. See, I am from The Bronx and rooted for the Knicks but
when they played McAdoo's Braves, I always wanted to see him go off. Most
times he did.
I'm not a big basketball fan, so I've never heard of Bob Mcadoo, which is
why I had to look him up. I actually went to his mother's house the other
day to work on some equipment for her, she told me all about him. Pretty
cool guy.
One of the finest shooters in the NBA, MVP in 1975 with the Buffalo Braves.
Finally earned a well deserved championship with the LA Lakers in the Early
80's. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. "Two for McAdoo...."
I definitely agree, there aren't many bigs like him who can play the four
position yet make absolutely any jumpshot. We still marvel at Dirk
Nowitzki, but McAdoo did similar stuff in the 70s.
Now this legend was 6'9 (about the same height as Dwight Howard). He played
a center and had a great outside shot. Such a great player and most NBA
fans don't even know about him.
Big Mac was one of the early 6'10"-6'11" guys that could put the ball or
the floor and shot the 20 footer. An amazing talent with the ball, probably
ahead of his time.
