+wantafanta01 well, interestingly, this is exactly the thing that Putin said during one commemoration event to Jews: "Yes, you suffered greatly and lost many people, but we lost more and that is usually forgotten." Besides, a great amount of those victims were Russian civilians - not soldiers, which makes it even more horrifying.

+woolffdale I think part of the reason the US used atomic weapons was to test them on human populations. They had been firebombing whole cities already which is comparable in destruction. WWII was incredibly horrific, I'm glad I didn't have to witness it.

+undeadpresident China had civil war also, besides they didn't take part in fighting againts nazis, they were at war with Japan, however the USSR declared war to Japan at 9 august 1945 and they transported 1.7 million soldiers and more then 30 000 heavy arms to the eastern front, Japan army started to surrender and at 15 august Japan surrendered, also I think there was no need for the USA to use nuclear bombs, they killed predominantly civilians. If Roosevelt was president I think he will never use atomic bombs VS Japan, Truman was crazy guy who started cold war and he was eager to demonstrate the power of nuclear weapon to the Soviet Union.
