@Learning2homestead Found a video on youtube (can't remember where) that
said they can be started at anytime - it was the planting time that was
crucial ie after the last frost. This is an experiment and if I get good
slips early I will try growing them under cover. Also the tubers should go
on producing slips for quite a while so if the first lot fail I will have
more as backup. I will video the results - success and failure!
Would it be possible to cut those sweet potatoes into pieces (like white or
red potatoes) to grow? Thank you for a lovely video. I never thought to use
old cardboard type boxes to start my veggies, what a clever idea!! My mom
used anything she could find to grow flowers and veggies....even old work
boots-Go figure!
This is my first year of successfully growing the slips from shop bought
tubers and there are a couple of other videos on my channel showing the
progress so far. I will be planting them out as soon as the threat of frost
has passed.
Well, even if your season isn't long enough to produce tubers, the sweet
potato leaves are supposed to be edible. So that means an edible and
attractive houseplant in the wintertime. ;)
