You mean Johor Bahru as in the city or you referring to the Johor state in whole?At the City, not many places are good for fishing as the water surrounded it is quite contaminated. You can drop by the abandoned shopping mall near to the checkpoint, I think its name is Waterfront something, walk inside there's a huge platform build for shoppers, you can try you luck there and huge barracuda was caught there, if you are lucky you might landed a barramundi too. Used float with long steel wire hook line for the rig, use a small rod to jig some live bait at the place as bait. You can walk towards the Msia - Singapore Causeway to fish beside it, do not cross over to Singapore border as you might get into trouble. Huge catfish and something Gelama can be caught. You might wanna try the Stulang beach as well, fishing activities is good only during high tide, low tide is way too shallow, not much of great species caught there but catfish or gelama.Lastly you can try out the Lido beach or Danga Bay as they call it nowadays, not bad for spending a day fishing there but I would advise you to put this spot as your last spot and it's best to have a few friends tag along. It's quite notorious there especially in the night, many robbery cases reported.If you are able to travel far, i.e. If you have own transport. I would recommend you to go somewhere further like Desaru, beautiful beaches and clear water. Huge aggressive fighting Stingray is my all time favorite there.Anyway, Malaysia is a big and beautiful country waiting to explore, take your time and roam around the area and you might come across many hidden beauties. With the salt I'd try making A paste by adding a little water then putting it into a mold and let it dry. Maybe you might have to ad something like cornstarch. That would deslove in water pretty fast. As for a portable boat. Advanced elements sport or higher model would be sea worthy and light (30lbs)

+Mike Androi Nice suggestion of using salt, but how to make it solid? I thought of using other material which might melted in the sea but was not sure what to use, haven't really go and search for one. In fact I do own an inflatable boat and with a small outboard motor, the pair were equip with many DIY customizayion and it weighed around 100kg in total. Been thinking of doing the boating in more simple way, just like the kayaking.

Like Telok Cempedak, Balok, Beserah, Pantai Sepat, Kempadang, Anak Air.Need to check the tide table 1st before doin some surf fishing. High tide is the best time. Sting ray season just started. +baadshepherd The safety part makes sense, but I'm skeptical about the dark heating better.  If that were the case, greenhouses should be dark...of course plants still need sunlight, so maybe that's not a great example.  How about getting into a car that's been out on a cold, but sunny winter day.  It's plenty warm inside, but if the windows were black instead of clear, I suspect it be pretty cold.

I know this is years after you asked, but the darker colors heat the water more. For safety sake having a cover that is visible helps prevent accidents. Most of these covers are specifically for safety, so anything they can do to increase safety they do.
