I understand your point. But I see no scenario in which Egypt can gain an advantage by attacking Israel from Sinai. Not only would they be too exposed on the peninsula, but acts of agreession contrary to a treaty that is popular outside the muslim world would be widely condemned. None of the arguments used to justify the kind of rocket/missle attacks Hamas conducts from Gaza would apply to Egypt. They would economically sanctioned by the US and EU and thus isolated like Syria. Very bad idea.

Maybe someone in the leadership that emerges will realize that their economy would be devestated if they are isolated. Unlike Syria, Libya, Iran, Burma, etc. tourism is a big part of the Egyptian ecoomy. That all goes away once Egypt turns its back on peace. They also get a large percentage of their wheat and corn from the US, which is a potential lever, although I suppose they could get it elsewhere.
