+ND I Damn that's messed up. I want to get my masters too after I get my bachelors because a person can potentially make more money. But sometime it doesn't happen like that for some people.
I heard if you are in medical or education field and you can't pay for your
loans then after 10 years the debt is forgiven? right? please correct me if
I'm wrong?
College is mostly a scam in the US...it costs a fortune and often teaches
people fairly little that will be useful in their careers (that they
couldn't have learned on their own in a short period of time). What a
college degree really is is a rubber stamp barrier to entry that keeps
professional incomes artificially high (limit supply of professionals to
increase the demand for current professionals). I've seen PhDs working at
low-end jobs. What matters more to potential employers are appearances,
charisma, and organizational fit.
+saintgauden yeah absolutely i dont think anyone would slaughter that cash cow lol especially if i am one of those banks that benefits from this racket.
+Mannypacquia0 Too profitable for the parties involved. If you have a giant cash cow to milk, would you slaughter it? The American higher education system and federal financial aid have evolved into a purposeful racket to exploit the ignorance of babes.
+Mannypacquia0 I think the real problem is kids (in their teens and early twenties) aren't that advanced in their thinking. Almost none of them do cost-benefit ratios or other calculations to determine bang for their buck. On top of that, they've been indoctrinated for 17 years or so to think of university as a rite of passage, not as a mere investment. As a result, most/many people go to university at all costs...just because it is something that all people their age are told to do. I don't think this situation is going to change any time soon because, even with all of the economic hardship today, the pro-university propaganda is omnipresent on tv, in the public schools and in govt public service ads.
" I've seen PhDs working at low-end jobs. What matters more to potential employers are appearances, charisma, and organizational fit."Finally some truth. also people are forgetting that business owners are always calculating value to cost ratios. if someone with a college degree in that owners eyes isnt fulfilling their value to cost ratio. then they wont be hired. its that simple.Same with people who are evaluating college when it comes to value to cost ratio and people like me have come to the conclusion. That college when it comes to the cost. it isnt congruent for the value. you will not if for example. if you invest 35,000$ in college. you will not get 35k$ worth of value as well as more.Reason why people go to college in short is to earn more money then they have right now.And they truly think that they will get their investment back as well as profit from it.Its the truth i mean you can be sure. if an employee is worth 15$ an hour. that business owner is getting atlest 20$ worth of value interms of labor.College does not give you a return as well as a recoupment of your investment. People are forgetting about that. reason people go to college is to get back what they earned as well as potentially earn more then what they are earning right now as a result of not having a degree.
Dr. Umar Johnson: COLLEGE SCAMS, WORTHLESS DEGREES & BLACK MENTAL ILLNESS...
Dr. Umar Johnson gives insight on how blacks are being scammed into huge debt with WORTHLESS DEGREES that are not aiding them in this failing AmerIcan ...
People need to stop saying President Obama is not doing is job when it come
to Black People, because he is. If he is a gatekeeper, than he is doing a
fine job.
Umar Johnson speaks against higher education yet he has several degrees and
a PhD, yes it is true they should build more jobs but they're not so now
what. don't teach black people to sit on their hands and wait for somebody
to come and rescue them black people need to be taught how to compete in
this society. higher education is very necessary for the black community.
even if you wanted to become a plumber, that takes college, it takes higher
learning for an electrician, to work in transportation industries, even to
become a barber or a hair stylist you still got to go to school and get a
piece of paper. and there's certainly isn't wrong with a brother or sister
who wants to advance themselves and become a lawyer, a physician or even an
engineer. we need more of them in the black community. Umar Johnson has
degrees in psychology so why would you discourage other people from higher
learning. I wonder if Umar Johnson believe his degrees are meaningless.
Black people like him really kill me he's the real sell out
+hazel nut And you say I am not getting your point. In reference to my post about teaching, read the entire post prior to commenting.. You want to lament Umar for his vision for the school and say that Fredrick Douglas married a whyte woman, but you are chasing degrees from whyte institutions. Regardless of who Fredrick Douglas married, was he trying to help blacks? that is the most important question. There will always be whytes involved because too many Negroes think that the whyte man is always right and that when a Black Man proposes something there will always be that Negro suspicion like no black man could ever come up with that. I do'not see Negroes raging against the bankers for stealing their hard earned money but they continue to by houses, cars, etc with the whyte man at the helm. So now Umar is asking for money now he is a fraud. But the fraudsters perpetuate fraud daily and not a peep
+Charles 91771 You are on point. There several apprentice programs out there that prepare young people for relevant trades. HVAC and plumbers will never be replaced by computers. Welder in the shipbuilding industry will always have work in the global economy because so much cargo must be moved by sea.
+Charles 91771 You also don't have to get a license to drive and carry a gun. Think about the logic here and the ramifications when you don't get one. Stop taking this ridiculous information and running with it. Meanwhile OTHERS in society will be getting degrees and "KEEPING IT REAL" will keep you behind because of your defiance or rebellion or ignorance in listening to another guy who doesn't make the rules for society. Yes, you can operate on people if you're not licensed, but good luck beating that lawsuit.
+choco late I agree with you we do need a diverse economy. You're not going to get any argument from me on that. I'm not saying that everybody should be carpenters, plumbers, electricians, masonry, etc, but we need a lot of brothers/sisters with a skilled trade to build a Black infrastructure. The problem with the black community is that we don't encourage enough of our children to get a skilled trade that they could master.
+Katzbynite where do you go to be a teacher without a four year degree plus certification. Im not talking childcare development either. Accountant, yes i see that. You can get an associates and be a low level accountant. Trust I see your point, it does not take that long really. You really dont need four years of high school. I hear in england it's different. What can we do to change the american education system. I agree it needs change. I still have a problem though, lls, with people discouraging youth from wanting to obtain a degree. No matter if it's a two year, four year or a year certification. That is higher education and i am all for it. Now if you want to do hair for a living or carpentry, cool, but i would never discourage anyone who wants to have a degree, or tell people that degrees are useless for that matter. Everything is not for everybody. Also every degree is not useful. You cant expect a bachelor's in psychology or sociology to take you anything past a school councelor or the welfare lady. Hell, dont major in that lol. But if that is your passion, nothing wrong it. Umar's degrees have benefited him plenty. Well maybe not that's why he's pimpin y'all
+Charles 91771 and let me say this. To build a black economy, you would need black people in every field possible. Everybody cant be nor want to be an electrician, carpenter, barber or hair dresser. We also need teachers, attorneys, doctors, nurses, financial consultants and accountants. Hell we need more black police officers(criminology, criminal justice deg. ) who live in our neighborhoods. We need to go into business for ourselves, support each other and keep the black dollar moving in our community... Start there.
Read my original post. I am in favor of all methods of higher learning. Keep donating to umar he's just gonna take it right to the strip club. Just say if he really wanted to start a school. There will be a need for teachers, administrators, IT specialists, who Will have college degrees, whom I'm sure would want to get Paid. You got building maintenance, equipment, books, computers, etc.. So in order to keep the school running, donations and grants will have to keep rolling in. So keep donating and keep hope alive because your pan african god is a fraud. That school will never open. Thanks
+choco late Education is not exclusive to colleges. When you speak on education is far beyond the walls of these colleges rarely teach anything on real world jobs. They make money on ppl with these bogus SAT, ACT etc. You don't need 4-5 English, Language Arts, History classes because one, I speak English and can write it as we were taught in High School. The issue is to get rid of these bogus classes in both high school and college. Teach the basis reading, writing, arithmetic and skills that will allow students to transition to college, technical school, jobs without boring them to death. It does not take 4 years to learn to be an Accountant, a teacher, business administrator, etc. Yes there are some fields that require a more extensive study but most don't. By the time the student graduates these real jobs have changed.
+choco late Well, not exactly, you can go to technical schools rather than a 4 year college. There are some states that have apprenticeship training in various fields.
+choco late I went to a trade school to learn carpentry. They had courses in plumbing & electrical. They're forms of higher learning, but they're not college. My nephew is learning how to become a plumber right now. He's not in college. The unemployment rate may be worse for black undergrads, but it's not going to get better for either. Black folks can get all the degrees they want, but there's not going to be enough jobs to go around. Black people are systematically being locked out of the job market. Black economics is the key to our success. What type of education that is required to build a Black economy?
And another thing, to even began building for ourselves still will require education and training. That all black boys school he is talking about, but we all know will never manifest, he is going to need black teachers with degrees and certification. He is full of doodoo
The employment rate is even worse for non college graduates..The wealthiest people don't have degrees but they are not black either..we all know the playing field is not even
He has a degree in psychology. And yes look it up you have to go to college for plumbing. Has always happened. Yes some degrees are worthless, but he makes it seem like all degrees are nonsense. Dont forget he has a phd in psychology.
You have to go to college to become a plumber? When did this start happening? Dr. Umar is right a lot of those degrees are worthless. Take a look at what the unemployment rate is among Black College grads. You're right there's nothing wrong with Black people who wants to advance themselves by going to college. But can we be honest here the college educated Blacks has no interest in building a Black economy. They're more concerned about getting a job working for the dominant society & hoping to get promoted to a token position at their workplace. Dr. Umar Jonson is preaching the opposite. It's time for blacks to start empowering themselves. The wealthiest people who run this country don't have college degrees.
All college degrees r not equal. U NEED 2 DO YOUR RESEARCH
con't --> Charlatan majors are majors that people have majored in
figuratively in their sleep. It was difficult as a cakewalk. And most of
all, they brag that they have a degree in it when it was a trivial trial
and tribulation in order to acquire it. Too too many Black people are
charlatans that say they major in a charlatan major and end up making
mediocre money, and haven't learned shit and brag they can do more than
their degree and don't know shit of what they have majored in!!
@PKKElephant, Even though it seems like you igg me most of the time, I am
glad that you have put this resourceful vid out there. I call majors which
most Black people major in "charlatan majors". They consist but is subject
to modification as the following: 1) Psychology (probably number one) 2)
Socialogy 3) Accounting (too many cazafortunitas in this) 4) even Poli Sci
(yes I have said it!) See, I majored in Comp Sci and Calculus. Are those
charlatan majors? Hell to the fcuk no!
majoring n the social sciences & the liberal arts, in general, for
undergrad will not help immediately after school; I'm a psychology major
and after 2012 will be getting my msw so I can counsel; I've also had an
internship and job experience I knew this was nec before i was even in
college students are informed about the benefits of internships & acquiring
job experience ...good video but it's already been said; people are just
lazy
Good video brother. I agree with you. When you said Liberal majors I am
sure you meant Liberal Arts/ Social Science Majors. I majored in a SS and
can verify most everything you said. It is tough to get a job in those
majors, and it is not as easy as Math, Engineering, or the Natural
Sciences. Your right, I agree, Business and the Natural sciences programs
are more rigorous and practical with regards to getting real job or Career.
Yep filters I just learned that as well I honestly believe math classes are
a filter to some degree because people give up on it. I personally
SUCK!!!!!!! at math, but I just keep taking the classes although i have to
retake some just to get a 3.0, buuuuuuut............ augh...... it'll work
out for me one day. I realize some people find an excuse for failure and
giving up.
@SuavecitoBro2 Ha! With the exception of Accounting, which you listed, many
in your field would probably call the other three you listed the "Soft
Sciences." But on the real, you can use those degree to get into Law school
if you did well in them.
im currently a junior in high school i was thinking about maybe mastering
in human resoures how do i even go about finding the right career field for
me is there like a list of information of all the classes i can take and
the info on it?
@nmr20067 Also, in the arts, we have to explain to an employer why and how
our particular Liberal Arts degree can help THEM. I have strong writing
skills and etc.... It can be a lot harder depending on the person and their
drive.
Thanks for the advice! I need to look for some volunteer time somewhere,
perhaps a hospital? I'm not 100% sure of what I am going to major in yet,
but I really am aiming for science/math/nutrition
Sound advice. It does matter what your major is. One should not go to
college without a plan. Too many people DO NOT look at the big picture, I
find that to be a cultural thing in America.
I'm willing to guess that you don't get many views, but yours is one of the
most useful blogs of all. always remember, what you're doing is offering a
much-needed service. I SALUTE YOU.
A lot of Liberal Arts majors go to Law school, too. In fact, Law school
loves the history degree. But overall, yes, you need more than a B.A.
degree in one of the Social Sciences.
I got a degree in Biology and Sociology BUT my plan was to go to MEDICAL
SCHOOL...never to get a job from that degree....liberal arts is useless in
the real world.
