@AnneLiesveld Basically, I have a picture in my mind of what BF and all the other "former first ladies" look like (her, Lady Bird, Nancy,Jackie,Rosalynn etc) and to see "Betty" as a regular person and not as picture in my history textbook it is wierd because I realize she is as much a historical figure as the current former presidents' wives are maybe starting to be to a newer generation of kids born when they were in the whitte house. Maybe that wasn't the case right away but they are anony.

As a "young person" (not really but relative to this clip--I was born 4 years after this clip) it is really wierd to see a living clip of Betty Ford. RIP I didn't watch her or Reagan's funeral as I was too little or not around during their lifespans (not around in case of BF-GF and a 8 year old with RR-NR adminimstration so I have very little understanding of the world enough to remember where I lived at 8 let alone to remember Reagan was pres and this was what he did that made me like him.

@AnneLiesveld I just think about how my whole picture of their family is about seeing things like that blue sweater picture of Susan Ford. I saw that one Wikipedia once and was like OMG how old that looks but i realize that is her "white house" picture so that is how people remember her and I think that is probably how people will remember Chelsea clinton too down the road.

There's a TV legend -- and who knows? it may be true -- that MTM wanted Gerald Ford himself for this sequence. However, CBS would not allow him to appear, because he was running for reelection as president that year, and CBS did not want other candidates to accuse CBS of favoritism and giving him free TV exposure. So that is how Betty Ford got this famous appearance.

I loved the Mary Tyler Moore Show. I remember when this episode aired... and Betty Ford came on the screen... and I though... Oh... this if for real... and then Mary comes up with that Queen of Scots line. I almost wet my pants from laughing. Betty Ford must have had a great sense of humor. I'm glad she had a long and good life. Thanks Mrs. Ford.

Why didn't Mary and Grant Tinker (her then-husband and MTM Executive Producer), offer equal time to e.g. Nancy Davis Reagan (whose husband was then running against Gerald Ford in the 1 976 GOP Primaries for Pres.)?? MTM later did ads for Carter in 1980--typical Ford-Romney "Republican"! !!!!

Thanks for posting this. I remember watching it in '76 when it first aired, enjoyed seeing it again. I believe Mrs. Ford and Mary Tyler Moore were friends in real life, which is how she came to appear on the show.

If there are any MORE MTM TV-Reunions, I am SURE she will let Hillary or Michelle Obama (but NOT e.g. Mrs. 'Jeb' Bush or Mrs. Rand Paul!), appear and get "free" campaign publicity and TV time!

I used up a pot of the Lemon Flash Peel and it was really great. One of the best AHA peels I've tried. I also really love the Tata Harper resurfacing mask, not as powerful as the Lemon Flash Peel but has more BHA in it so it's very helpful for breakouts/congested skin! xx
