This was real OKLAHOMA football. Back when Switzer was coaching, we had a
swagger that made teams absolutely fear the fuck out of us....we were mean,
we were straight up fucking bad boys. Miami got us pretty good in the 80s,
but not many teams could. This shit with Stoops now is a fucking joke. At
least when we still had Mike Stoops, we played with a swagger. But either
way, Bob is no Barry, not even close. Barry is a legend. Bob is a fucking
joke, a clown, he's a straight up fraud.
Oklahoma has the best "longest spread" of Ntl championships, that's what I
like about them. Example, Nebraska won nothing until the 70s then nothing
until the90s, then nothing again. Dame was big in the 40s 60s 70s & 80s
which was the best spread, but then NOTHING for 20 years! Oklahoma was
champs in the 50s, 70s, 80s, 00s meaning ONLY 10 years AT a TIME is the
average for an OU decline until back on top. Everybody else hasnt won at
all or has like a 20-30 year gap in between.
I actually thought the 1986 OU defense was one of the best I have ever
seen. I think they shut out like 5 of their 12 regular season opponents,
and in the orange bowl against arkansas, the razorbax scored a garbage TD
very late in the 4th quarter, and I believe brian bosworth didnt even play
in that game due to a suspension. PSU fans will disagree with me but I feel
if OU had played PSU in 1986, OU would have beaten PSU even worse than they
did in 85.
The 86 defense was probably just as good; I just have better memories of 85
since I was in the Navy in 86 and didn't get to see many of their games. I
certainly remember blowing up Arkansas. I also remember that if we could
have beat Miami in 86 and in the Jan 88 Orange Bowl, we'd have been 3-time
in a row national champs.
Those OU teams would probably have won three national championships from 85
to 87 (maybe undefeated each year) if not for the Miami Hurricanes. Not
only was their wishbone working like the wishbone of old, but they had the
best defense in the country each of those years.
I remember SMU came to Norman the last game of 1985 and unless we gave up
something like 900 yards of offense to them, we were assured of being the
top-ranked D in NCAA Division I. One of the best defenses we ever had;
right up there with 1974 and 2003.
Great memories! I hated Penn State so much that I became a Sooners fan that
night, second only to West Virginia. I was really hoping we wouldn't beat
you guys so bad this year ;) Thanks for the clip, my all time favorite NC
game.
love how these teams uniforms still look the same.. thats what makes teams
like ou, penn state, alabama, michigan, even notre dame cool.. tradition!
teams like osu, and oregon can have all their different crap..
It would have been nice to know what the score was throughout the game, and
the downs, and the clock. They sure have improved the network since then by
leaps and bounds.
I was in boot camp when this game was played. Didn't even learn the score
until 3 days later. That was one of my favorite OU teams. I think the 74
team was better.
@eugenemcgirt Well they played each other 3 times in 3 years. Twice OU was
without their starting QB. How would Miami have done if the roles were
reversed?
probably one of the most dominate defenses in the history of the game. I
think this is the same year OU held Neb and Texas to 4 and out from the one
yard.
I think I have it. Maybe I'll get around to it sometime. Thanks for
watching. BOOMER SOONER!
