When I was a kid we raised 3 long island (?) white ducks... they had their own pool just like this. they used to swim around it at high speed underwater, was funny to see.

Our winters in Washington state tend to be relatively mild compared to other places in the US. You just have to contend with the precipitation. I was surprised to see pansies still in bloom, but we haven't had any frost yet. The Pacific NW is really beautiful with its mtns to ski/snowboard down, the Cascades & Olympic Mtn ranges to hike, rivers & rain forests, & TONS of waterfront for swimming, boating & other water sports — lakes and harbors are abound. Hmmm, I sound like a travelogue!
