Reggie Jackson: Not Sure if You Can Trust MLB Statistics
April 4 (Bloomberg) -- MLB Hall-of-Famer Reggie Jackson talks with Bloomberg's Erik Schatzker about trusting baseball's statistics and records in the age of ...
Tacking U.S. Obesity
A new study shows that obese individuals spend more money on health care each year than their healthier neighbors. The CDC is ready to tackle America's ...
You know what? I'd like to hear you tell that to my mother's face. You want
lazy, she'd show YOU lazy and frankly you probably wouldn't know lazy if it
slunk up to you and bit you in the ass. If you ask ME, it's people like YOU
with your generalizations about obese people that make the U.S. look bad.
My mother has rheumatoid arthritis; the medications she's on for it make it
harder for her to lose weight and cause her to put on weight. She works
over 8 hours a day teaching, even summer school...
which is only a few hours shorter than a regular school day during the
school year, and when she gets home from work she's pretty much has no
energy left. She has to lay down for hours, often she sleeps. While I agree
that she needs to make time for exercising, it's easier said than done. I
mean, I pretty much offer to cook dinner day in and day out because we
don't eat for until 7 at night. Frankly, your beef is actually more with
the pharmaceutical companies who make the meds my mother takes.
And aspartame and all the greedy pharmaceutical companies as well as the
chemical infested food companies and then maybe it will all work out...to
bad fat people and these doctors cant figure out why they are fat....maybe
one day they will all forget about making money and tell the nation the
truth.
Banning size zero models from catwalks to promote a healthier ideal of beauty may actually make people's eating habits even worse, new research suggests.
@helix4811 Concerning social norms and the suppose pressure that fit people
(or people like you, as you mentioned) feel to conform, I believe that,
ultimately, it is up to you to decide if you will allow yourself to bow to
any exterior pressure concerning the way you lead your life, and that you
are the sole person to be held accountable for the choices that you make.
Whether that is to stay healthy by exercising regularly and eating well or
not. So if you work out, it should beyourchoice, period
Models of what? Cultural Aesthetics?. Usually the big shows are really for
the supreme elites. Dressing like Salome is encouraged among the daughters
of the elites. But there is another 'Model' Female beginning to emerge.
Well muscled boxers who brake each others faces and a whole new variety of
lethal female warriors from Hollywood. The Right Wing Talking Heads are
calling for us to have the spine to simply conquer as in the old British
Empire. Remember how kinky those old Brits were?. Insanity
@WHEC35NRDL true, but the ironic thing is it's only a few years since the
Italians were the fattest people in Europe (America is still the fattest
place on Earth, of course). Then the honour of fattest Eurocountry went to
Scotland, largely down to their diet of deep fried everything. But the
fattest man in the world is English. He's y trying to sue the National
Health Service as they 'failed' him. I guess a medical team should have
been on hand when he was cramming 27000 calories down his neck.
@helix4811 Also, and lastly, I believe that fit couples would tend to
divorce more, if only because each partner has more chance to look around
and experience with other people, hence resulting in a break of trust,
given that fit people are generally considered more attractive, since fit
means healthy, in my parlance. Whereas chubby, or overweight, in my
parlance, and thus unheallthy, tend to stick to each other if only because
they have less chances of finding someone else once they break up.
@greyeyeblindmind I exercise, once a day i jog, i stretch when i walk up,
and before going to bed, that's besides the point though. I don't
understand why people cling on to the saying that, "if you're healthy,
you're happy." If happiness was measured by healthiness, then everyone on
the planet would exercise, but the fact remains that it is false. Suicide
is more common amongst fit people than chubby people, because chubby people
tend to have more fun, they also do what they want and not care
Funny stuff. I think that this researcher cares more about keeping
beautiful (and slim) women in fashion by personnal preference rather then
professional opinion. Anyways, standarts of beauty in the western world
won't change that much, even if we advertise more strongly built (read
heavier) women, since beauty is about health and good reproductive
features. So no anorexics, and no obese may apply, but anything between
slim and a bit overweight is sure to find at least some interested party.
@helix4811 for the love of ample women). But I do not think that things
will change much overall, no mattter what this reasearcher fears. Since
being overweight (big or fat, whatever you may want to call it) is not good
for your health. And I consider fat, overweight or generally in a bad
physical condition (either due to food, cigarettes, alcohol, or others
health conditions) all of those who can't run more then a few minutes (say
five to ten) without showing some serious signs of strain.
@helix4811 Read: panting and collapsing on the floor. If this is yoru case,
then mayeb you should quit drinking, smoking, and should eat healthier food
and indulge ina bit of regular exercise. And I am saying this for the good
of everyone, even for those who aren't obese or overweight but who just
don't have enough muscle tone to carry them through more then five or ten
minutes of exercise. (say jogging or swimming or whatever other not too
intensive exercise you can think of. Just saying.
@helix4811 And this would likely be because, with the mass urbanisation of
the 19th century, people (poor people) would work long hours in the
factories, effectivily hiding from much sunlight, and those who could go
out and enjoy themselves were those who could afford time off work (the
better off). Most of the standarts of beauty either have to do with social
status or are linked to healthiness, and reproductive features, such large
hips and mammary glands (hence the explanation for ...
@helix4811 The fact that big people tend to feel happier about themselves
is a generalisation, and I not quite sure that it is true. Some people have
a morphology that tends to put them on the fat side, and in this case, they
should learn to accept themselves, and if they eat more then necessary and
gain more weight then they would under a healthy diet and a healthy mode of
living (read: not too sedentary) then I believe that it is their choice,
and we should not feel sorry for them.
@helix4811 Around the 15th centruy in Europe, and a bit before as well, if
I remember well, it used to be considered desirable for a lady to have her
skin as white as possible, since melanine is more active when exposed to
the sun, and only peasants had to work outside and in the fields all day
for the lords of the land who could stay in their castle and concentrate on
things like singing, embroiding and the likes. Nowadays and since the early
20th century, we like tanned people.
@greyeyeblindmind about social norms that everyone else seems to promote.
Big people also tend to be more happier with themselves, because many
accept themselves for who they are, and it is the fit people who put them
down, which may cause depression. In the end, i feel more sorry for my kind
of people (fit), because we constantly have to work out in order to stay in
shape. Also, did you know, fit couples are more likely to get divorced than
chubby people? fun facts are fun.
who really gives a shit about what models are on the cat walk, your weight
is determind by how much food you eat and how much exercise you get, not by
which magazines you read what a load of crap, some one should do a study in
to how reserchers corralate data This is just another BS story to distract
the population from the real news: such as the WARS and the DEBT crisis
watching skinny girls doesnt make you fat and watching fat girls dont make
you skinny total rubbish
@greyeyeblindmind swedish study, can't give you a link but i can give you a
name: M. David Rudd, chairman of the Department of Psychology at Texas Tech
University he studied the findings and concluded that the rapid decline in
weight usually puts thin people in a state of depression, which would cause
suicide. On the other hand, chubby people who gain weight tend to be more
happy. the research was conducted over 30 years, with 1.3 million male
volunteers involved.
Who in the hell finds size 0 sexy? Sexy is what a woman brings to the table
regardless of size it is an item that cant be faked by dancing on a pole
for dollars. big or small short or tall you cant dictate Sexy or limit it
to mere size. Woman are their own enemies by making these things issues We
Men are basically Oinkers when all is said and done and size is only an
issue of enough for us. Size 0 is hardly enough trust ME!
@helix4811 ... so not necessarily because they are more happy with each
other, but just because they are less eager to take a risk by being single
again (of course, that is if you consider that being in a couple is the
best of choices for an individual, but I think that I will not even go
there given the amount of time and words already spent responding to the
topic at hand). Fun facts are fun, indeed.
so instead of studying cure for all the many diseases out there we're
studying the weight of models and how that'll affect the girls of
america....really people can talk about the "ideal weight" and blah blah
blah till your blue in the face how can someone else tell another what
their weight should be if you happy with yourself do what you want...this
bothers me
@helix4811 Yes, I did know. But I also knew that this applies more to parts
of Africa as well. I think the rational is that in some part of the world
(were people don't or didn't use to be able to eat very much) being a bit
heavier or having a fat wife meant that you could feed her properly, and
therefore that you were rich or in an advantageous social position.
yeah so what...women are easily impressionable ....we knew this.....the
only things they pay attention to are the things that...reallly don't
matter.......size 2, 4, or 6 will probably suffice although i don't know
what they mean...i do know it's a system to make women feel better rather
then put them in a large x-large category...thx bye
Skinny>Fat. There are no advantages for being fat. Period. What are we
suppose to say to our kids "It's ok hunny, god made you how your suppose to
be! Now finnish your plate" Plus size models are just as bad as size zero
models. If anything I bet the size zero models have less of a chance for
diabetes and lower cholesterol.
its one thing for a big woman to have good self esteem its another thing
when you go to a club or bar whatever and they throw themselves at you and
when you decline all of a sudden the self esteem goes down the drain and it
turns into a oh whats the matter you dont like big chicks its like dam if
you do and dam if you dont.
yep, that's right. if someone is a size 3.. people are gonna start
shoveling in the hamburgers! this makes no sense and has absolutely NO
LOGIC. They want healthier people on the runway. Anorexia is more common
than most people would think! It's healthier to encourage and show women
that they don't have to be a size 0.
I agree I think models should just be healthy. I also think it is about the
clothes- not the models. It is fact that clothes look better on slim, tall
models. The idea of the runway is to showcase the latest fashions and
designs, not the weight of the model. The model shouldn't really be
noticed.
A lot of models are like size negative 2, not size zero. However, the goal
should be to make our culture less materialistic and shallow so that
females ststus isn't determined mostly by their appearence and fasion
models aren't considered role models.
