Well sir, you are correct about the first part. I make it a practice to
accept the taste of others. I apologize. Are you not a little harsh on the
rest of it though? I am 66 years old and have owned many cars. And I do not
lie. I hope you reconsider your statements. Peace, Matt

+Robbie Perez I'm not sure, but I think it may have water for extinguishing any fires that the train might start from hot brakes. Maybe someone else can jump in here...
I'm pretty sure there was no rail grinding in the area. The wheels on rail sounds were recorded just outside the museum from a passing UP freight and dubbed into the video.
Yes, it's open to the public. The layout is at the Colorado Model Railroad Museum, 680 10th Street Greeley, Colorado (970-392-2934). See the web site for hours: //www.gfsm.org

A "flyover" is a temporary track that must be assembled and disassembled
every time the SSR wants to move a car to or from the museum. The SSR also
has one active freight customer, a lumber yard, to which they deliver and
retreive lumber cars to and from. Every time the SSR delivers or picks up a
lumber car, the UP has to assemble and disassemble this "flyover" track.
They don't do it very often because the UP actually has to close their
mainline for a short time while the track is in place.
Originally, when the Sacramento Southern Railroad was owned by SP, the
tracks leading to the museum crossed at grade with the main line. This was
because both sets of tracks were owned by SP, and the diamond was
controlled by signals. When UP took over the line, they did not want the
SSR trains crossing their tracks, so they removed the diamond. However,
they agreed to install a "flyover" whenever the SSR needed to reach the
outside world.
Very nice perspective. You're standing on the platform at SAC and the train
is eastbound coming across the bridge over the river. The train station
there in SAC still has the Southern Pacific signage near the top of the
building, If I'm not mistaken. Actually I think I saw that in one of your
other videos. ;)
Seems like a lot of work and time to build a temporary crossing across the
mainline. Why did they cut off the museum from a mainline connection
considering all the activity going in and out of the museum grounds?
@jbrad1974 Thanks for the info. It seems inconvenient that they removed the
diamond & they have to call the UP crew to do the job. It took 3 hrs to
finish the job. Any idea, Who's going to pay this job? SSRR?
Nice video, Snuffy. The engineer of the Zephyr sure was blasting the horn
alot as he came into the station. Seeing the switcher moving the coach
around was cool, but what exactly was it doing with it?
I was wondering about that. With as many times as I have been over to the
area by the Amtrak station I could never figure out how the Museum got
rolling stock in and out of there. Thanks.
having to put a temporary flyover track every time SSR needs to reach the
outsuide world seems silly and a waste of money. They should re-install a
permanent diamond.
