What to Carry Overland. The Overland Workshop, part-5
Walking on a remote salt pan, Andrew St Pierre White and Paul Marsh talk about what to carry on expeditions. Discussions include spare tyres, tools, winches, ...
Any suggestions on converting a Grand Cherokee CRD 2005-2010 into something
that could be an overland vehicle like the projects you do?
PS I really enjoy your videos.
Peter,, I had one of those crd engines... Not to be trusted much further than the nearest cliff.. way too much electronic BS that is prone to catastrophic failure. Mine shut down with 90k miles on the odo.. had it flatbedded in,, the high pressure fuel pump failed and took the fuel rail with it.. $500 to tow it and $4,000 later it was up and running,,,, sold it asap. I wouldn't trust a Chrysler product ever again... there is very good reason that Landcruisers and Land Rovers dominate the overland crowd... LCs never break, and LRs can be fixed...
If you are using tracks/ladders in very soft sand or ground, tie a piece of
coloured rope to the track, if the track dissapears into the sand/mud the
rope is usually still visible :-)
+JR Cook I purposely avoided saying that, yes it can be done, but there are risks involved, people will use weak points on the car and pull break those bits off, or if the mat/track is very buried it may break the rope defeating the object of attaching it. Also make sure no-one is stood to close as flying sand tracks could be dangerous.
audio differences between you two needs work. it's a little harder to hear
Mr. Marsh without turning it up. it'd be nicer if both levels were equal.
still a great video to get your tips and information.
+Norman Kellison Sorry about the not so great audio quality. One of the two mics we were using failed, so everything had to be recorded with one.

Kestrel at the Opera House Cup 2014
Kestrel is a 1929 Fishers Island 31 Herreshoff sloop racing at the Opera House Cup Regatta in Nantucket. Learn about the museum quality restoration of this ...
Lloyd's Register of American Yachts for 1938 indicates Kestrel was built in
1928, delivered in 1929. But new owners inscribed "Kestrel 1929" on her new
blocks. Are we to witness the curious phenomenon of history adjusted to
cover an expensive goof?
Thanks! Works fine and the remote still works too. Much better with the
switch when you are plowing snow and you don't need to worry about the
remote getting wet (at which point it stops working).
I couldn't really understand what you were saying but the video was enough
to do it. Thanks for posting. It worked great for me. I put my switch on a
10' three wire cord so that I can be away from the winch when I use it.
Good work in event the winch I just bought remote quits working.
But think will wire in a switch in combination with the wireless remote so
have options in case need to hold onto brakes pulling another out...
And this mod should work with any wireless winch that uses 2 solenoids to actuate the clockwise-counterclockwise rotation. I used a similar mod for tilt trim in a boat.
Traveler maintenance OneDrop
Chris Larson demonstrates Harken traveler maintenance and the benefits of McLube OneDrop ball bearing conditioner.
And no protective gloves or safety glasses Chis Larson? Acetone is bad
stuff. Tsk tsk. Harken legal will have a field day with you before the next
video. And, by the way; your audio and video really need some work. Not the
company image I would have expected from Harken.
