I totally get why Richard Illingworth called No Ball. At the point of
delivery, Bracewell was well forward of the popping crease with his front
foot. It may not be correct in the literal interpretation of the rule: 5.
Fair delivery - the feet
For a delivery to be fair in respect of the feet, in the delivery stride,.
(b) the bowler’s front foot must land with some part of the foot, whether
grounded or raised
(i) on the same side of the imaginary line joining the two middle stumps as
the return crease described in (a) above and (ii) behind the popping crease.
However, in the moment, the umpire would have seen a ball released with the
bowler's front foot well in front of the popping crease.
Watch the video again, please.
The single shot that everyone thinks is the "criminal moment" has
Bracewell's arm well back before delivery.
So, the umpire might have made a mistake in the literal interpretation of
the rule, but I can totally understand why he called No Ball.
Get over it and let's get on with enjoying the game.
Cheers,
MJ
+Michael Johnston why can't the umpire check with the third umpire? isn't that what he's there for? to check to make sure that the right decision has been made especially if a wicket has been possibly taken so you won't see mistakes made as is the case here the fact that you can't overturn an umpires decision is just ridiculous especially when there's conclusive evidence that he made the wrong call.
RJH summed it up perfectly "An Umpires decision cannot be overturned because the cricket umpiring fraternity has more interest in protecting it's own skin than umpiring the game the way it should be umpired."Fact or opinion?Umpiring is not easy and everyone is correct in urging the administrators of the game to make is easier for the umpires to make the correct decision(s) so that everyone can continue to enjoy the game.
+Michael Johnston Get over it? try telling that to the Blackcaps, I'll admit NZ were outplayed by Aussie but NZ's fight back was severely hindered by wrong calls from the umpire the fact that this has happened more than once is just unacceptable at this level, RJH summed it up perfectly "An Umpires decision cannot be overturned because the cricket umpiring fraternity has more interest in protecting it's own skin than umpiring the game the way it should be umpired."
