This classic 1974 VW commercial clearly demonstrates the concept of competitive frame. All the other automobile manufacturers are portrayed as trendy, ...
All the brands shown in this commercial (DeSoto, Studebaker, Packard,
Hudson) were no longer being made in 1974 when this commercial was
done. The only exception was Buick (the car with the holes in the side.)
Volkswagen had only sold 2 cars in the U.S. that year, and they were
making the point that these trendily styled brands had all faded away, and
Volkswagen had grown to become one of the most popular cars in America
during that 25-year-period, without having to change it's style in any
significant way. I've always remembered this commercial and it was fun to
find it on YouTube!
+James Victor Owens This is NOT 1974. This was art directed by my parents' (Andrew and Carole Langer) best friend Bob Kuperman in 1968 or 9 at Doyle Dane Bernbach. Bob went on to be CD of Chiat Day.
Nice. That kid was cute. If has father is a bug guy then he should feel
blessed that his kid can have a connection with him. My kids never had my
interests.
I've got a 74 Super Beetle. I got it 2 years ago from my grandfather who
drove it into the ground. I've managed to make it road worthy again but I
have body damage to repair and I don't even know how to start. My front
apron is punched in, the hole where the antennae came out is warped, the
trunk was broken into so the hood is warped(locking mechanism cut), and
there is rust scattered around the car(fenders, hood, door hinges, floor
boards). Pointers on bodywork would be nice, thank you.
Congratulations for winning the 1st prize, very well deserved, that red
wheel combination with black paint on the car is very original. I also like
the 73 superbeetle at minunte 1:15 with the american bumpers and turning
lights, and the sport wheels, which are very hard to find now.
I'm Jealous of the condition of your baby. Mine runs fine and all, but it
needs to have body work done to it and the interior needs to be redone
before it is finished. Heck it could use a re-wiring job too. I got a long
way to go before my baby is finished.
