Santa's Workshop - Inside China's Slave Labour Toy Factories
Sometimes we have no choice, we work till dawn. When you work all night you become dizzy and your eyes hurt because you can't take any breaks. SANTA'S ...
This is beyond heartbreaking! Living and working in these factories?! This
is a prison. In the USA, we have hardened criminals. That get three free
meals, a day. Free medical care. They can watch t.v., play games, and have
way more more freedom, than these people! There's no way in the world, at
least in the USA. That you can boycott Disney. They OWN, the corner of the
market.
Christ, people are so gullible and will believe anything, like what's in
this video. Though I do believe working conditions should be improved,
think of what these hundreds of millions of Chinese made before they worked
in the factories. As much as I love the Chinese people, this is what
happens when population gets this bad. These factory workers that liberals
call slavery, what would they be without the jobs? It's a hell of alot
worse than slavery. Radical leftist social activists do more harm than
good. And let's not blame corporations, it's all because of China's
communist government.
Most of the idiots in this comments would do a lot of harm if these
factories shut down. Really stupid idiots would blame Americans (which they
do with everything), if prices go up too high Americans aren't going to
purchase the products, whether you like it or not. America is by far the
biggest consumer of Chinese imports. Piss us off and those people you're
trying to save will starve to death. You idiots are million times more
destruction than any corporation.
Thomas
+td fisk Still, you said working conditions should be improved. Don't complain about slavery because death is worse is not a great incentive to change.
+Lucas Alves Communism is a good idea on paper, just like democracy. However, when you hand any form of government to corrupt officials who do not care about their people, it all goes sour fast.
+nanajosianne It's not just Europe and USA, it's everyone. Greed is a human trait.

+Cane Jackson this is the generation of dumb people.. who watch TV.. and the whole puropse of TV is to lock your consciousnesses... i bet most people are unaware of this horrible thing with climate change.. shortage of water etc etc...Surprise and disbelief. That’s what often follows when people learn about the large water footprint of many meat products.Common responses include: “Really?” “That can’t be right.” “That’s ridiculous.”Shock is reasonable after discovering that the global average water footprint – or the total amount of water needed – to produce one pound of beef is 1,799 gallons of water; one pound of pork takes 576 gallons of water. As a comparison, the water footprint of soybeans is 216 gallons; corn is 108 gallons.
+TheGiannaras2 So.. You just have wrote this fucking SHIT comment and then you go home like this???? How DARE you wtf, what a pair of bollocks you have
Hi +TheGiannaras2, this video is not an excerpt from a film. We hosted this lecture as part of an evening of talks and entertainment. The audience are ordinary member of the public, however the speaker is an actress.
for the people who call this video propaganda, or accuse it of succumbing
to the very techniques it lambastes:
there's nothing wrong with marketing per se--it's all about what you're
marketing for. this video is trying to alert people to horrific abuse
happening on incomprehensible scales. what does 20+ billion factory farmed
animals each year around the world even mean? it's an enormous scale, and i
commend people who take a firm stand against it. be critical, definitely,
but industrial agriculture gets a lack of meaningful criticism. People
trying to do good in the world often get too much.
Propaganda: the term getting misinterpreted or misused a lot to me is not the same as it being flexible. Like saying a donkey is a horse is not a flexible use of the word donkey. But yes it is often (mis)used with negative connotation to imply illegitimacy.I disagree on the notion of almost everything being propaganda since the scientific method (if used with full consequence) seeks to spread unbiased information is what I prefer over propaganda any time of the day. But I might be a daydreamer. In the end - and we aren't disagreeing on the bottom line here - yes we have to pick and choose our battles.I rather have information presented in an unbiased fashion. It's the kind of emotionally manipulative aftertaste, that at least I feel watching this from its use of dishonest means to aggressively put forward its message that puts me and others off. There are plenty of honest (forgive my overuse of that word) documentary pieces, that present the facts about the food production industry but don't leave the sour taste of emotional manipulation by leaving out information in order to sensationalize or shock. My battles are fought for getting as much unbiased information out as possible in order to get people make informed choices. As part of that I criticize videos like this as I know there are more honest ways to inform people.I give it credit for it's message and stirring up a shitstorm which of course get's the cause publicity. But due to it's methods it also is highly polarizing as well as probably not the way people that fight for the same cause necessarily want to be presented as.
+Sephibox two different threads. i like it.propaganda is quite a flexible and general term. since you've mentioned rhetoric before, you might understand how rhetorically the word propaganda is itself an attempt to persuade one of the illegitimacy of a communication, without, perhaps, more thoroughly engaging with it.i can agree this is propaganda only insofar that almost anything is. everything ever said uses information selectively in an attempt to persuade or induce action. do i have an issue with some the techniques here? sure. this video is not entirely unproblematic. but like i say in my original comment, we also need to be aware of what they are "propagandizing" against: an industry with incredible marketing and lobbying power that is inflicting terrible misery in the world. there's also a lot of honest appeals in here as well that are not drowned out by other, more assertive or manipulative threads. to me it's a matter of picking battles. there are a lot of battles to pick. do i want to spend time criticizing a video like this with what problems it has, or recognize it as a largely persuasive effort in having people confront this issue?
+itchynights Let's agree that this is propaganda in it's literal meaning. (But who looks up meanings of words these days) Also sorry but I strongly feel that the end does not justify the means. It's dishonest and ruins the otherwise good message to me. Simply displaying a slide at the beginning of the video stating that this is indeed a (in my opinion rather annoying) actress in front of an unaware group would have made it more honest. But that might have made it less impactful to easily persuaded emotionally driven viewers, and since that was more important to the creators, they deliberately chose not to and instead deliberately use misinformation (such as the subtitle titling the actress as "Kate Cooper, Marketing consultant to the Food Industry")Also the Comment under the video states "Take a look at this so-called expert..."> that all is misleading information and too me simply dishonest.I know they tell people that it is an actress in comments when asked but, most people will not find out that fact simply because it has been deliberately buried. Also she is simply called actress instead of Marketing actress as to harder indentify what's actually going on.So to me the end never justifies means like this deliberate manipulation of information.(please don't think I'm picking on ya, I just came across your statement)

I think it is really quite arrogant of the west to send in the NGOs and all
the rest to eradicate prostitution in Cambodia and other places. They
aren't improving conditions for the girls or their families, they are
making them poorer and forcing them to work for international corporations
as slaves. Imposing western ideals and morals on other cultures seems
presumptuous to me.
I am a Cambodian living in America. It's sad that those girls get only two
choices: working in a dead end factory job or prostitution. The translation
in this documentary was lack in detail, she said many things and you gave
only one sentence. You did get the point across, but I think if I was to
read those subtitle as a non-Khmer speaker. You might not really know what
those girls are really going through. Over all, it was a great documentary
beside from the translation.
