The States have long given up so many things to China that I am sick to call myself an American. The Federal government of the States is owned by the mega corporations and the fed is the bitch of the banks. You got point there as well. I'm a Canadian and I am in mineral exploration so I hear some things and they are constantly finding vast amounts of natural gas throughout N.America they are actually finding massive fields up north and capping them for future use because they don't even need them currently because we are so natural gas rich. You would think that they could stop that fracking BS near homes since we have so much and obviously whats ours is yours our brothers to the south

Exactly you would think that shipping costs would do a lot to level the playing field as well as the massive PR boost they would recieve in return, Also you would think that along with China's economic growth there workers wages will grow in turn. Unless they truly do have an inexhaustible pool of cheap labor which unfortunately may be the case. But I think they growth of there middle class will do just the opposite for them as there workers demand more and products made in China

That's an easy question. Of course the U.S. couldn't survive without Chinese exports. Medical supplies, industrial supplies, household appliances etc. would all skyrocket in price and possibly just become unavailable. The U.S. might not even have what it takes anymore to build industry, and even if it could, wages would have to drop tremendously, along with prices and corporate profits. Americans wouldn't accept this. Nor would they accept the disappearance of modern medicine.

rise in price it will be less and less cost effective to build and ship products from China and hopefully that will do a lot to bring back manufacturing jobs in North America. Though it seems the Canadian government is doing everything it can to destroy Canadian manufacturing by recently with out consent entering into a free trade agreement with China that can not be broken without 36 yr's prior notice. But yet NAFTA can be dismantled without any prior notice at all. Scary

The U.S. could easily survive without china's exports.. Even Ron Paul thought we should relive the stress from tax's on domestic, and increase tax's (I forget the specific word) on foreign imports. Tariff! yes that's it.. We need more tariffs, and less tax's on us. How stupid could we be to give our jobs away, our oil capability, and rely completely on foreign markets, we're the whore of nations in this economic disaster.

The US industrial infrastructure is only a fraction of the size of what it was at one time. What you mentioned is just a diddle workforce and in fact many of the parts used to assemble some of those products were not manufactured in the US.

+laetrille The US will finish its exascale in what, 2025? Despite the ban, China will complete its 2 exascale computers next year. That's 2016. This time with Chinese processors, coprocessors, accelerators, and interconnects. So the ban just basically delayed China's plans by only a few months, while creating rivals to American chip manufacturing, and screwing Intel out of a small fortune.
