Video review of the Hy2000 Generator. It kept us sane during a 2+ week outage here in NJ. Powered our refrigerator, computer, TV, DVD player, sump pump, ...
I bought one from Home Depot.
It ran good for 2 days and then died.
Maybe just a fluke so I'll try again. To the credit if Home Depot they took
it back no questions.- And no receipt either!
@Fred6191 Fuel injectors and the pump are injecting a fixed amount of fuel
into the combustion chamber. Until the motor is up to speed and the correct
amount of air is also present, they blow smoke from the unburned fuel.
After reaching the correct RPM for the amount of fuel injected, the smoke
stops and the fuel burns correctly since it has enough air. If it was a
vehicle and the throttle was making these fuel changes gradually then you
would not have smoke from unburned fuel.
My dad has one of these generators( not this brand specific) he had it on a
drop deck semi trailer, the tie down strap broke and the geny rolled off
and rolled down the road all most 1/4 mile on its wheels, caught some
gravel and tumbled another 20-30 feet end over end. The machine only needed
a new starter switch, after the starter switch was replaced it started
right up.. and continues to run excellent.
I am impressed by this generator actually. I've been needing one for my RV
and the Onan Microquites are ultra expensive. This one is quite, it's
diesel so it stands a high chance of lasting longer and shares the same
fuel as my truck. I think it cool that is has two remote controls to start
it plus the key and pull start. For $1600.00, not bad at all!
How much louder does it get when there is a load on it? Any engine can be
quieter @ idle. The only diesel gens ive ever seen are those monsterous
ones at construction sites or hospitals for backup and such. And those are
nothing like this. Those things would rattle your head up close. nice
looking gen, looks well built.
It is from unburned fuel. Until the engine is at normal speed and the
compression is what it should be, diesel fuel does not burn correctly. What
you have left over is that smoke you see. Basically it is from low
compression but goes away a second or two later.
