There is no evidence to connect the Olmec with Africa, other than the ancient central east African root of our species as a whole. Those who mistake certain features depicted on the giant stone heads as depicting "Negroid" west Africans are simply unfamiliar with Mesoamerican phenotypes. Faces resembling the sculptures are still common in the region today, particularly among the Tzotzil people. The cranial and facial shapes of the sculptures are clearly non-Negroid. This is especially clear when viewed from the side.
