Kelsi Worrell Resets 100 Yard Fly American, NCAA, US Open Record (49.81)
Kelsi Worrell of Louisville becomes the first Cardinal to win an individual event at NCAAs and twice breaks the American record in the process. Her morning ...
Yes I will try to post record breaking swims of the mens but the first day was not broadcasted on ESPN so unfortunately I don't have a video of David Nolan's sub 1:40 2IM..
2014 Kevin Cordes 100 Yard Breaststroke American/NCAA Record (50.04)
100 SCY Breastroke: NCAA Record, American Record, US Open Record Splits: 23.58, 26.46 (50.04) 2014 NCAA D1 Men's Swimming & Diving Championships ...
I'm British so i'm just wondering if someone could explain to me why you
Americans take 'yards' so seriously? I've never heard of this guy on the
world stage, I doubt he would be able to match Peaty LC yet he's the
fastest American in history.
+Tyler Yates It would certainly be an interesting race. Althought i'd put him behind Van der Burgh at the moment. Shame the event isnt at the olympics.
+comicjmerrywell Except Cordes can give Peaty a run for his money in the 50 breast LCM. He's still got work to do, but he's pretty fast in the shortest one. (Cordes went a 26, barely behind Peaty's WR)
+TheFawly84 It's traditional for NCAA. That said, LC is what's really important, even here in the States. Cordes is the fastest American in yards, but Hansen is still probably our best breaststroker ever (at least of the modern era). Also, not being able to go toe-to-toe with Peaty in the breast is no black mark on the old resume. Peaty's put himself in the conversation with guys like Hansen and Kitajima.
+TheFawly84 You're kind of right about the long course comparison. It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges though. Personally, I think yards is way more exciting. I also think if you put Peaty against Cordes in a yards race, Peaty would get dusted because Cordes is the master of quick turns and smooth underwaters - Peaty just has more lasting power.
+TheFawly84 this is collegiate, its juts how it has been done. club season used to be yards fall/winter and long course meters spring/summer. pro series i believe is only long course. and its a different kind of race, 3 turns instead of one. some people are better at short course, but he can go low 59 long course. and to be fair, there are plenty of non americans who go to college in the us and swim in this meet. and also, we have not really adapted the full metric system over here so that might have something to do with it. and one day he might reach the standard you are talking about, you never know. i hope this helps, if not my bad
When I went to state in this event for Michigan the state high school new
record holder swam a 53:50. It was disgusting. Remember, this kid was a
senior in high school. In 2015. I was in the pool with a probable Olympian.
+MiggyBomb I want everyone here to think about this: as a senior in high school, Kevin Cordes' best time was a 56. I know that's an outstanding time, but it isn't exactly "rare" in the high school elites. He's gone on to be the only person to break 50 on the medley relay and has the American Record. Consider this a motivational comment, but it's completely true and factual! You logically can do anything.
That last underwater turn that it shows, it looks like he does a dolphin
kick. Is that even legal? He does it before he starts his pulldown. I guess
it looks like they are all doing it, but this just doesn't seem right.
+TRUx Voodoo Only been legal since 2004 (maybe it came into effect in 2005?) Kitajima cheated with a dolphin kick at Athens, but only got caught on camera, not by the officials. FINA decided it would be easier to allow the kick than to figure out how to enforce the rule.
Yes, it's completely legal. One dolphin kick is allowed before the pulldown in breastroke. You can either dolphin kick before the pulldown or during the pulldown.
2014 Chase Kalisz Crushes 400 IM American/NCAA Record (3:34.50)
400 SCY IM (3:34.50) Splits: Fly - 50.04, Back - 54.12, Breast - 59.41, Free - 50.93 NCAA Record, American Record, US Open Record 2014 NCAA Division 1 ...
+InfinityPineapples bro this race is the NCAA its basically the olympics in yards. Don't worry people start of slow but you can get fast if you have the heart to do it. :)
+Swim Nation A long course pool uses meters instead of yards. Since one yard is approximate to 0.9 meters, Chase Kaliz only swam 360 meters. Still though, 3:34.50 for a 400Y I.M. is better than most of us will ever do.
+Ryan lex Really? He said his turns could have been better, which is true, if you're not considering the circumstances. How does that show he thinks he's better?
His turns seemed fine to me. Maybe they seemed "slow" but that's because it's a 400 IM instead of a 200. There's really not much more you can do when you're 1.5 seconds under the American Record...
+Basem Magd very very difficult to do... If you heard Rowdy Gaines, he was 2.5 seconds over the old AR pace before the breast and ended up 1 second under it after the breast. Ridiculous.
Yes. Now that I begin to think about it, Kalisz's breastroke split would be most impressive because having to go under a minute for the 100yd breastroke prior to swimming two strokes beforehand is, in fact, very difficult to do.
Yes, Kalisz is quite amazing to say the least. He went under the old AR by 1.5 seconds.. All his splits were ridiculous but I'd say his breast split was most impressive.
