Dear Megan, thank you for providing this simple, yet wonderful recipe for
the Eucharistic Meal - life and center of our Catholic Faith.
My name is Fr. Alejandro Roque, OMI and I have been a religious priest for
the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate for the last 28 years working in
South Florida for 26 of those years. I first became familiar with this
recipe when I was a novice for my congregation back in 1982, for we have
used communion bread (not wafers) all during our seminary formation
program. We had only used the wafers if there were to many people at
liturgy... which was quite rare during those years of formation. Back then,
our cook (Sr. Marian - a Precious Blood Sister) taught a handful of us how
to make this bread so that we could use it in the future. Once I went from
the Novitiate to our Scholasticate in Washington DC, I became the person in
charge of the preparation of the communion bread. I did it for the next
five years, yet once I was ordained, my life became so busy working in
"mega parishes" down In Miami, Florida that I never got around to making
the bread any more.
Currently I'm the director and formator for our Pre-Novitiate House program
in Buffalo, NY with 8 young men in our residence discerning their call to
religious life and the priesthood and I want them to experience the beauty
and rIchness of consuming the Body of Christ in this primitive, yet
authentic tradition of our Catholic Church. I want to begin to use it as we
begin a new year in their formation program. I also want them to learn how
to make it so that they can keep up this great tradition that was given to
many of us Missionary Oblates during our own formative years by Sister
Marina who is now with the Lord.
God bless you and your loved ones for the gift you are for the Church today.

There is a mistake in the ingredients!! The typing says 1.5 cups of all
purpose flour but it is only .5 cups. :)
