hi I have an xr200 (1983) its been leaking. I can't tell if its oil or gas
or a mixture of the two. Sure smells like gas but its darker like oil...
but I thought maybe its making its way down the motor, picking up dirt in
the process which is making it look dark? The carbs (dual carbs) look dry
to me. Im assuming its coming from under that somewhere. One time my son
laid it down on the pavement and definitely spilled gas. Where would it
spill from? Where would you start looking for the leak? thanks.
If it smells like gas it probably is gas. For common gas leaks try these ideas. First, make sure your on/off pet cock is not leaking where the gas comes out from the tank. Second make sure the rubber gas line is not old and cracked and allowing gas to seep through the line (that is common among 10-20 year old bikes. Third buy a gasket kit for your carbs. They are quite inexpensive and they give you all new rubber o-rings to replace in your carbs. Fourth make sure that the carb is clean with carb cleaner and compressed air. This has to be done almost annually especially if you store your bike for the winter. Fifth, check for any leaking in around the seams of the engine case. If you have leaks there then the job is going to get more expensive, but that is not real common. Hope these ideas help. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! Great video. Next time you clean the centrifugal force
separator that you mentioned, would you mind filming that as well? Would
really appreciate it
