Let's Journal! #5: Daily Writing
Today I discuss why I try to write daily and suggest some possible benefits. Don't forget to leave any suggestions for topics you may have! What I'm planning to ...
I know this is quite an old video, but are you still writing daily? I've
been going now for just over 6 months and I really hope that I can make it
until at least a year.
I would just like to ask if you have a certain spot you keep your completed
journals? I really want to keep them on my bookshelf but the only thing
that is holding me back is the prying eyes of other family members! As my
journals are quite personal and private, I was just wondering if you have
them stashed somewhere or not? :)
I am really enjoying your series on journal keeping and was so happy to see
another installment. Your videos have been very inspiring!
I used to journal a lot when I was a teenager and as I got older would
journal some, but wasn't quite as dedicated and eventually, except for an
occasional entry, stopped. In the summer of 2013 I decided to start another
journal after many years of not even thinking about keeping a one. I still
didn't write very often and my last entry was December 2013. I started
again in August of this year and have been much better at writing. About
the middle of September I decided to try to write everyday even if only a
line or two. It wasn't easy at first but now that I've started writing
daily about anything and everything, I can write at least two pages daily -
many days even more. Lately I've been writing a little first thing in the
morning and again in the evening. I am now a believer in writing everyday -
the more often I write, the more I write. I look forward to sitting down
with journal and pen and just letting myself go.
+cookiebakr I'm glad writing is going well for you! It's definitely a habit you need to learn. I stalled around 2008/2009 and didn't write at all in 2010. It took some time to relearn the daily thing.
I feel like daily journaling is the best thing you can do. It's all about
the habit. If I don't at least try to do it daily I can go by months
without journaling.
Acutally, I filmed a video last week about 750words. I haven't edited it
yet, but I think it will go online in 2 weeks or so. I talked about the
morning pages concept of writing 3 pages every morning. I don't know if you
ever heard of 750words.com It's the same concept, write 750 words every
day. I'm on a 49 day streak at the moment. 50 after I write my daily pages
today :D It's so easy once you are in a streak to keep going. Otherwise I
would have stopped a few times in between. I mean 750 words is quite a big
commitment. It really is a lot more than I would write per hand in a
journal. I write just the way I think, sometimes everything's mixed up. I
also definitely try to write down what I did the day before. I love to
write down my dreams, tasks that annoy me, ....
I also use metadata - Sleeping hours, weather, time, location, sounds,
food/drinks I have while writing & on a 1-10 scale how happy & busy I am.
+BookParty! I have heard of the 750 words and I've been thinking of doing a video on it, combining it with the 3 morning pages. I've tried both but neither fir my style of journalling. Congrats on reaching day 50!
It used to be very hard for me to journal every day, because I felt nothing
happened that was worth writing about. I got over that, and try now to
write as much as possible, and that resulted in 2014 being the most written
year so far.
I'm currently on my second journal and I have been feeling it's nowhere
near as good as my first in terms of what I've been writing. I think you
may have solved that problem for me, I wrote waaay more frequently in my
first, I guess just because I was trying to form the habit with myself. But
now I only write 2-3 times a week because either I'm busy or feel like
nothing significant has happened. Consequently when something I feel worth
remembering does happen I tend to forget, guess I need to discipline myself
again. Thanks for helping me realize!
Omg!! You have the deathly hallows on your journal. The half blood prince
was my favourite book. I'malso a lord of the rings fan, i can write in
elvish!! #suchageek!! I keep a journal too!! Xxx
