Siena city in Italy, Toscana region, the seat of the like-named province; three lie on a coherent hill, from Firenze onto 70 kilometres. The ancient city's today's face ...
The Palio di Siena (known locally simply as Il Palio) is a horse race that is held twice each year, on July 2 and August 16, in Siena, Italy. Ten horses and riders, ...
Except for the tight curve in the beginning, I could see doing this with a
couple a friends! (after a couple beers, lol.)
I like the way the horse that wins is totally cool with being mobbed by the
crowd who's touching its nose and grabbing its ears!
@ chris greenlee you abuse us european and then you forbid to
answer......??? you are nothing than a coward!!!! .............the racing
in siena is animal torture and should be forbidden......but we europeans
working on it......but mr. greenlee stays a weakling!!!
+Mutter Theresa dear friend, the palio is the palio and nothing else matter....I don't live in Siena but I but I completely understand the mentality that these people have in running the Palio for 600 years. the people which see one time this type of reality cannot understand and share everything in barbarism. you can not understand that a horse before coming to the square is born, grows and is bred and exclusively prepared for this for many years, in order to run and after a few years and a few rides goes to pasture or reproduction. the horses are not drugged and not abused and if are injured they are being treated at a special veterinary clinic that would not exist if the palio not exist. so i strongly suggest you before spitting judgments on an old tradition like palio, inquire about how it works. thanks PS: the Italian language will not be an international language but there are Italians who can write in english.
you are thinking every german is a nazi....first of all......i am half indian , a quarter slowenian and a quarter german......but i feel like a german!....every german is a nazi .....idiot......!!!! .my german grandmother was in a kz because she helped jewish people!!! whatever........every german is a nazi just the same as every muslim is a terrorist! you have my empathy!!!!
+marco aurelio ROFL fuck off!!!! "BEACH"!!! thats very funny!!!! ...you are so uneducated and stupid!!!! .....and italian is not the world language....thats a fact!!!! i need to improve my english too.....so!......i was in rome, florence, venice, san gimignano, pisa, milano and in sienna......sienna was the nicest place because of the marketplace........but the palio is just brutal horse torture, nothing else, but the italians dont have such a big sense for animal rights !!even the spains improved animal rights! but in relation to china is italia nothing......a tradition to torture animals exists in china.....the chinese thinking that animals have no soul.........and they kill year for year millions of animals in the cruelties ways....... animals boiled alive ,skinned alive and whatever.......ist a nightmare!!!!
Giudichi senza conoscere. Mi spiace ma del Palio non hai capito proprio niente.Vieni a vederlo a Siena, con tutta probabilità cambierai idea. Cerca sul sito internet cosa é il " protocollo equino" ,leggilo attentamente. The Palio is life.
+Chris Greenlee You might be right - but so what?A person does not need to have any religious faith to be cruel to animals - and having religious faith does not necessarily lead to cruelty. There is no causal link here. The Palio is not intended to cause harm to horses - it has deep roots very probably to do with social cohesion - a sort of medieval town championship. Harming horses is a secondary by-product of the contest not its raison d'etre. The greater cruelty is the habit of killing one another - the Palio might be a substitute for that. Your theory about Europeans and Caucasians is an interesting discussion point - but not for me. Your views have been noted.
+Richard Buxton There have been numerous traditions all throughout Europe's history that involve torturing or killing animals in a celebratory manner, partly facilitated by religious and superstitious beliefs that certain animals are evil. I haven't been able to find very many examples of this same pattern among other cultures. Other non-European cultures historically show a more conscientious view of animal life, often worshipping them as gods or spiritual kin. However some cultures, like many in Asia, do still maintain practices of cruelty to animals (mainly for more practical purposes like food) but not so much in the context of celebratory enjoyment as what we can still see today in Europe. I'm sorry but Europeans and Caucasians in general have an obvious propensity for sadism.
+Fabio Longhi Fabio - racing horses around Siena's Piazza del Campo is one thing and executing criminals is another thing - entirely separate and unconnected from horse racing. You can not justify any alleged cruelty of the Palio on the basis of judicial execution somewhere else.Best to just accept that in America some criminals get a death sentence and in Siena some horses get badly injured - and we should get over it.
I think random cruelty to animals is not a European specific although the people of Siena are fiercely loyal to their district or Contrada and care more for the honour of winning than any concern for animal welfare - the horses selected to race wearing their colours are blessed in church - anybody who tried to mess with the Palio would be unlikely to last very long probably suffering more than any horse might. The Palio has a history covering many centuries with absolute and total support from each local community - any cruelty you see will continue for many years. Winning is much more important to them.
Italy Highlight: The Medieval City of Siena

How can you expect people to hire you when you don't even give accurate
information! You show the photo of the baptistery of the IL Duomo, Santa
Maria dei Fiori cathedral, of Florence. You must think every one is stupid
and accept everything you say as gospel true! There are those that can fact
check your information and you should be embarrass for passing on
misinformation. I bet you are an American company!
Che bello rivedere la amatissima Siena!!!!Ai tempi felici ho potuto

+Brianna Thomas : No ! shooting the loser rider. Each one who's the last at any moment of the race is shot to death, and so on, until there is only one left : the winner. That adds more tension and fear to the race and motivation to the racers
No, they didn't shoot a horse. They use a small explosive to signal things for the race, rather like using a starter pistol (although they did not use it to start the race -- they merely drop the rope to begin). In the video, you'll hear a bang near the end for when the people overseeing the race signaled for the jockeys to abruptly stop to keep from running over the injured jockey and the emergency medical technicians who were trying to transport him off of the track.
Quante fabbriche c'avete? Meno male ci sono i turisti. E neanche avesse detto chissà che! Ha visto cavalli cadere e farsi male e ci è rimasto male. Sconvolgente.
