Easter Hymn at Winthrop.wmv
This is our glorius Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ at Winthrop University that was recently referb'd by a group in Canada. She has been lucky to have been inducted ...
I agree completely, the acoustics are fantastic. That auditorium was
designed to house a large instrument. They didn't actually install that
organ until 10 or 15 years after the auditorium was built. That organ is
under utilized and it really annoys me. I'm not a student there right now.
I plan on going back eventually...so no more videos on this organ for a
while :/
Boy that is just amainzing.....you should give yourself a big hug for that.
If I had the chance I would go back to school to play the pipe orgran. I am
just in awww of your ability! just want to drop a note and that.
Several weeks ago, I heard this wonderful instrument for the first time.
Aside from Duke Chapel, I don't think I've ever been in a more "organ
friendly" room; the acoustics are phenomenal.
Excellent! What a glorious sound indeed! Would love to see more videos
whenever you can upload any as that would certainly be a treat for the
ears. Thanks for sharing.
Ficarri plays Vierne's Allegro from Organ Symphony 2
Organist Daniel Ficarri plays the Allegro from Organ Symphony No. 23, Op. 20 by Louis Vierne at The Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Times Square on the ...
Daniel, at some point, someone is going to comment that this rendition is
"too slow" or "too fast" or "too this or that" ignoring the fact that tempo
and other choices are based on numerous factors including the resonance of
the room, the temperament of the organ, your personal interpretation and
preferences, etc.. They also will likely be ignoring the fact that they
couldn't play 3 measures of this piece to save their life. This is a
beautiful performance! Stay the course, young man!
Why are people saying this is the largest private resident pipe organ in
the world when it is not true?
The largest private residents pipe organ in the word is found in the Berry
Norris house with 200 real ranks of pipes. It is also recorded as such in
world records data base.
132 ranks is a far cry from 200 ranks.
Also, why is the specification of this organ not posted anywhere? I found a
posting on the organ in the OHS website, but it lists the organ at 73 ranks
of pipes and no specification is listed.
@baxterlaw2 The Eastman House Duo-Art player is the “Aeolian 176-note
residence pipe organ”. It uses 15.25” wide rolls. It is capable of playing
all 61 notes of the console- earlier Aeolian players used only 58 notes. It
operates the Chimes, the Harp, the Pedal pipes and the ranks in the Great
chamber and the Swell chamber. Rolls were originally made by the Aeolian
Co. from 1915 to 1933 and by the Aeolian-Skinner Co. after 1933. Sincerely,
Rich Butts Member/Eastman Pipe Organ Restoration Team
Thank you; I am an organ volunteer at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Aeolian
Opus 184 (55/III); at the time of installation it included the 116 note
"semi-automatic" player in the console and the 176 note Duo-Art player
located remotely. The Duo-Art player went missing in the 1960s,
unfortunately, but the 116 note player runs very well. Your Duo-Art player
should play 61 notes on each of two manuals for a total of 122 notes, the
other perfs are for registrations and shutters. Is it working?
I know this organ was silent for many, many years until recently and it's
nice to know that it's being performed on fairly regularly now. I intend to
go hear it one of these weekends. Keep up the good work!
