Good idea indeed! Have you tried other rope types? I can see a heavier bike wearing it faster. How far have you used it, a few miles a few dozen miles or?
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/--KqhCgoFKHI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAM0/YrBEia4jtbc/photo.jpg?sz=64
Right on! yeah I dont know why I never considered this before, I dont own a car either only a scoot and Sportbike and I have had tense moments on ice trying to move looking real stupid trying to go or stop eitherway that is.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-V1MXamPl1Nc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAK8/sur_EJQ5ynk/photo.jpg?sz=64
No, just manila rope, as that is what all the old school enduro riders suggested. Never more than 5 miles on back roads. The assumption is you would use this as a sort of "emergency exit" to get back to base, so to speak. If it's bad enough to need rope for traction, you'll be wanting to avoid traffic and not be wandering too terribly far. I've used it on longer commutes just to reach clear, main highways. Then, I pull over, remove the rope and put it in my backpack, and continue on.

Most riders close the garage when it gets under 70 degree Fahrenheit, she's riding on ice. Respect.

+lauriejennifer Nah. The next time I see a grown man complain about the weather I'm going to think of you and smile. I ride in anything, even if my hands freeze.. I'll just warm 'em up and get back to it.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-V1MXamPl1Nc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAK8/sur_EJQ5ynk/photo.jpg?sz=64
Thanks! We all ride for different reasons, too. There is no shame in putting the bike away in bad weather. If you're not enjoying yourself, it's not worth it! I don't judge the "fair weather riders." Everyone has their own limits for their own reasons. Besides, cars are fun in the snow! :) I wish I had one just for doing donuts in empty parking lots after a good snow storm.

+Alex R On the ice? Only once! But it was because I was crashing. lol That was before I learned the rope trick.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Rope isnt an issue for a moto chain, was towing my mate to bump start his stupid race engine and I just stuffed it in the cargo frame on the back because it was a short ride back to camp. However it fell off and I didnt even feel it get into my chain and wrap around the hub, was wondering where it went for the rest of the day.

I need to try this here whenever we get snow again lol I got my finger snagged into the chain sprocket only while I was cleaning it luckily and that freaking hurt
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-V1MXamPl1Nc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAK8/sur_EJQ5ynk/photo.jpg?sz=64

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-UNs2blXDTp8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAXI/wBkL_AImqC0/photo.jpg?sz=64
I've seen studded grip things that you attach to the sole of your boots to stop you slipping on snow/ice. Can't imagine they'd be expensive.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-V1MXamPl1Nc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAK8/sur_EJQ5ynk/photo.jpg?sz=64
I could have put something on my boots to give me better grip when putting my feet down at stops. Alas, I was more concerned about grip on the tires that I plumb forgot! Next time....

Do you have to drive your tire over the chains before installing? I assume so, but it's unclear from the video.

What tipe of material is this chain made of? I have been told that it has to be steely chain, not galvanized chain, because the second one will brake very easily... Thanks!

Why do people put this garbage on their car? just get some fucking winter tires.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DUSNHnR-5BE/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAB8/hySa040z3jE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tyler Hunt They're Michelin Defenders. Even if they don't last the 90k miles, it'll make my next set of tires cheaper, so what's the issue? I've been driving them, taking hard turns and stuff, no issues. The only reason they're hard is because I purposely over inflate them. lolThe number of years is different from the number of miles traveled. I doubt you're traveling thousands of miles a year in the winter, of course they'll last several years if you don't do much driving.Yes, $20 every 6 months is more clear. lolWhen having a professional change my wheels, unless I go to a place that isn't very popular and pay for it, I end up having to wait there for over an hour, yeah, I'd rather put on chains when they're needed.Yes, tire chains are meant for people who don't live in places where it's snowing all season. And also to add extra traction when necessary. You can rely on your winter tires all you want, but there's no denying that if your car with winter tires got stuck, chains would be able to get you out.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-N7RjZmoRPj4/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAHaM/7_o6oPe6CwQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+nambinhvu"My all season tires have a 90k mile warranty" - Neat, goodluck getting that out of a set of tires. Pretty much just marketing fluff. If anything it means you have a rock hard set of shitty tires."how long do most snow tires last" - Depends on how aggressive the tire is, how you drive, and if you use them in appropriate weather or not. I've gotten 4 seasons (4 years in the winter) out of really aggressive winter tires. I have also ran a less aggressive set for 4 years, and then sold them with 60% tread wear left on them. I don't drive easy on them, but I do change them at the appropriate time of year."Speed limitation in bad driving conditions is a very good thing" - Lol. Not if it's because the shit you strapped to your wheels is about to come flying off."you weren't clear when you said $40 a year." - I don't know what's confusing about $40 a year. Should I have said $20 every 6 months instead?"Chains are much quicker to swap in and out, much less waste of time and effort, and you only put them when you need them, not like winter tires where you leave them the whole season." - So I swap my wheels over at the beginning of the season. I do it at my leisure when it starts to get cold, just before the snow falls. Then I take them off again just when it's warming up, and the snow is gone. You on the other hand install chains in the snow, every time it snows, or go without the traction benefit. Yeah, seems like way less of a hassle to use chains. lol."Yes, I live in a plce where it doesn't snow." - Again, the only good reason I've seen to use tire chains.

+Tyler Hunt I thought I replied to this. Yes, snow tires do have a much shorter life. My all season tires have a 90k mile warranty, how long do most snow tires last? Less than 20k miles...Speed limitation in bad driving conditions is a very good thing, it reduces accidents, not only that, but it also reduces fatalities. Driving fast in the snow is idiotic, hit one patch where your tires lose traction and you're fucked...I doubled the cost because in the winter you need to swap the tires, then again in the spring when the snow is melted... Anyone with basic math skills would see that you'd have to double the cost of the tire swap, unless it only costs $20 to swap once, you weren't clear when you said $40 a year. On top of that, you have to wait for them to swap it, and if you do it yourself and don't have a garage, it'd be a pain being out in the snow changing the tires.Chains are much quicker to swap in and out, much less waste of time and effort, and you only put them when you need them, not like winter tires where you leave them the whole season.Yes, I live in a plce where it doesn't snow.

+Tyler Hunt I live in the northern part of Georgia....we get an average of 2, maybe 3, snow storms per year....I have a job where I still have to show up if it snows....snow chains are perfect for me...it would be a waste of money for snow tires in my area
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-N7RjZmoRPj4/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAHaM/7_o6oPe6CwQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+nambinhvu"Snow tires have a much shorter life" not really, no. "Where it counts, in snow and ice, chains give much better traction" citation needed. "they're not as good on plowed roads, but you have speed limitations with chains on" that's not a good thing."I live where it doesn't snow and drive to places where it does for fun, in my case, chains are much more useful. I can't bring 4 winter tires with me to the snow areas in my car and I sure as hell won't waste the life of them driving to the location and back." that's actually the one good point I've seen for chains."As for the cost, $80 a year to change to winter, then back to all season after, pfft what a waste." Not sure why you doubled my price, but ok. Still not a waste if you care about having control of your vehicle."And if I do it myself, that's a waste of time and effort" as opposed to putting chains on?"only worth it if you live in places where it snows weeks-months at a time." If it gets cold, it can be worth it. But if you live in a place it doesn't snow, then yeah, not worth it.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DUSNHnR-5BE/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAB8/hySa040z3jE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tyler Hunt Snow tires have a much shorter life. Where it counts, in snow and ice, chains give much better traction, though it's true, they're not as good on plowed roads, but you have speed limitations with chains on, so you don't have to worry. :P I live where it doesn't snow and drive to places where it does for fun, in my case, chains are much more useful. I can't bring 4 winter tires with me to the snow areas in my car and I sure as hell won't waste the life of them driving to the location and back. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-N7RjZmoRPj4/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAHaM/7_o6oPe6CwQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+nambinhvuAre.... are you stupid? No one changes their tires every time it snows. They change them at the beginning and end of the season. "Snow chains give more traction than winter tires" I highly doubt that. Maybe to get going in deep snow, but for any mixed driving I highly doubt that. "but when you live somewhere that it doesn't snow and only go for a short trip, where will you keep those snow tires?" LOL. If I lived somewhere that it didn't snow, I wouldn't have any use for snow tires, now would I. "Snow tires are very pricey compared to this" Tires are wear items. Having 2 sets just means that you're buying them half as often. The cost is a set of wheels ($100 used?), and about $40 a year to have them swapped over. (that's if you don't do it yourself).
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DUSNHnR-5BE/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAB8/hySa040z3jE/photo.jpg?sz=64
Snow chains give more traction than winter tires. Not only that, but when you live somewhere that it doesn't snow and only go for a short trip, where will you keep those snow tires? Snow tires are very pricey compared to this and who would want to change their tires every time it snows?
