Separating the transmission from the engine without a transmission jack on a Volvo 850
I show how to separate the transmission from the engine on a Volvo 850 2.4L using an engine hoist with chains while the engine is positioned on top of a dolly.
Are you a "weekend" mechanic or a pro? I keep looking at video's so I can
decide whether to do my own rebuild (on a Lexus RX300) or send it to a
shop. I have a large garage, but only 8' ceilings and it's packed full of
stuff, but I'm on a huge budget. I've never attempted anything this big,
but I've thought about just buying a rebuilt trans and replacing it with
the new one. I haven't yet figured out if I'd get it from under or over the
car. Suggestions?
@pen1510ve I put the engine on a small 4 caster dolly and centered it. Of
course, this made it lop sided (transmission was hanging over the side) so
I had to prop the tranny up with the jack. Once I took the load off you can
see I slid the jack away from the engine. Worked great.
I did a motor swap a few months ago, same motor and tranny, same year and
model, but for some reason the transmission won't engage now...? It's full
if fluid and everything's hooked up correctlynas far as wire harnesses and
such goes. Any ideas? It's a 94 T5 auto
