Question for everyone..... Does your town have Public Storm Shelters? We
use to have access to public storm shelters located at the schools through
Lawton, OK, but a few years ago the Emergency Management Director closed
all public shelters. Our tax dollars pay for the school, but now they won't
allow us to use them. He says that the storm sheltesr are not wheelchair
accessible and it cost to much money to bring them into compliance.
So...instead of possible damage to a few people, they closed the shelters
and subject the rest of the people who could of gotten in the shelter to
being hurt or killed. I would like to hear from you as to how things are in
your town and do you have access to public shelters.
When this happens they need to dismiss schools right away. With those kids
killed in a previous storm, they should have learned from that. I just hate
when kids get killed in these storms.
I completely agree. When I was in 2nd grade, we were put under a tornado warning we went under a tornado emergency drill for one hour then a tornado was reported and they let us out immediately.
