I see you just recently posted this and also you're in Missouri. Where
about are you? I'm in Kansas City. I'm doing this conversion on my '87 and
I'm stuck or stumped on a few things. Where exactly did you pull power from
for your HEI? Why use mechanical fuel pump instead of wiring the electric
to a "key on" lead?
+RangRayy Both Great questions. The original hot lead used to power the coil from the Tbi Distributor is what i used to power the HEI.I used a mechanical fuel pump because i could. You can also wire the Tbi pumps Relay to come on with the key so the pump runs full time. However it runs about 13 to 16psi more than enough to turn a carb into a fountain. Use a regulator to drop the Psi down to about 6
What ran a line to the fuel line that comes from the tank and capped the
return line off. Can i pull the electric fuel pump out off the tank and put
manual pick. old school way. I had alot of air in the fuel line from the
tank.
Hey Sir, I did the same setup in my 1990 chevy 1500. im not getting fuel
from the tank to the carburetor. i also left the electric fuel pump in the
tank.
How is your set up? Are you using a mechanical pump to pull through the electric pump? Or just the electric pump? If you're using just the electric pump then it needs to be wired to come on with the key
The one alot of people use is called the Walbro 255. Im not sure of a part number or if 255 is the number Haha
Chevy Truck TBI to Carb Conversion 2
Created with Wondershare Video Editor Working man's conversion. For those of us that DON'T have unlimited funds Parts used Edelbrock 9906 Performer 600 ...
Great video. I have a "78" 2wd Blazer that Id like to put that type engine
(serpentine belt) in but make it carbed. Will my carbed intake fit a TBI
engine ? Or, if I rebuild my old 350, will a serpentine belt system fit ?
+OUTFITRIDERS I don't see a reason that you can't put a serpentine belt on your 78. You will have to use the water pump, alternator, etc. from a serpentine set up. My suggestion is by an old truck (88,89,90, etc There may be others) and scavenge all the parts you need. Now you may still have some fabrication to do, but heck that's the fun of it anyway. It is easier just to buy an intake for your motor, there not that expensive. Different years have different bolt patterns on the heads so need a matching intake. That being said they do make an adapter to use your intake but it cost as much as an intake. 1987-1995 Intake manifold bolt pattern with center intakebolts canted @ 72 angle. Hope this will help you on your quest. Keep us up to date and good luck.
Arent you supposed to put the hei vacuum line on the passenger side as it
sits higher then the other one and provides a better vacuum? Then the
driver side vacuum line for A/T transmissions like the th350 and th400 NOT
a 700r4 but also can use it for a extra vacuum. And my second question is
how did you bypass the TPS, VSS and ECU so that the transmission shifts
into 2nd,3rd and 4th as well as OD?
+Charlie Clarke unless you change the cam your stock convertor will be fine. just remember you will need a lock up kit once the computer is diconnented from the trans.
+Charlie Clarke are you eliminating all the sensors and computer? if so it will have no emission controls. once you put the carb on the computer has no way to control the fuel mixture and you will need to change the distributor too. If you leave the oem dist on the computer will be trying to august the timing. I left my cat on for now.
+Abbygale Stutzman Drivers side is for non emission controlled engines and the left is used for emission controlled engines.(per manufacturer). Since I am eliminating the ecm I hooked the distributor to the drivers side. Your application may very. I will be using a TCI Lockup kit, TCI 376600. This will eliminate the need for the ecm and the other components for shifts. Hope this helps.
+Heveri Barron First use the pink wire coming from the ignition (It should be connected to your coil). you will use this wire for your electric choke, HEI and fuel pump.Fuel pump wiring:Green/White - Cut and connect to ignition(the pink wire)Black/White - GroundRed - Disconnect and capOrange - Connect to batteryGrey - DO NOT CUTHere is another videoAlso: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myTSUdSJLdA
Papa, thanks for the info, can't thank you enough. Spoke with tech @ Jegs
and they recommend a 2300-2500 stall converter for the Comp cam that I'll
be using or I'll be stalling out at every light
+Camaro Z twentyeight Glad to here that. Hope you post a video when your done, I would love to see it!
Carb swapped 1992 Chevy K1500
My setup of a tbi to carburetor conversion. Holley 4160 600 cfm carb, Holley Street Dominator intake, GM HEI distributor, Holley 12-803BP fuel pressure ...
+adam brakke Google. You're lucky, its much easier with the 4 and 5 speeds cause you don't have to mess with trans. control.
Chevy Truck TBI to Carb Conversion
I wanted to show that you can put a carb on a tbi motor. this engine has not been started in 2 years. It is running great. Still have more work to do. Most people tell ...
hey I have a 1991 suburban I want to do this too. I love your videos.
everyone makes it seem like this is the hardest thing in the world to do. I
didn't think that it was. and you made that clear. what did you have to do
electrical wise? I was also thinking about buying a crate engine that just
came with a carb. would that be easier? or not.. please get back to me.
I am sure you can use any carb as long as you have a intake or adapter plate to match, that's if you need it. Also try to use a carb that is the cfm you need. You don't want to under card or over carb your engine. Hope that helps.
+Jon Shanle My update with partshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXw0RLw9mDkIf you buy the correct intake you should be fine.see my new vid,,,,,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXw0RLw9mDk
This proves how intelligent you are! I know Dad Ragan would be proud of you!
Carburetor vs Fuel Injection - Summit Racing 101
What is the difference between a carburetor and fuel injection? Listen as Dave guides you through 2 barrel carbs, spread bore carbs, race carbs and compares ...
+Antivorg , Ok, well, while both have butterflies to throttle air, both release their fuel into the air stream entering the motor differently. One delivers fuel that is held under high pressure and released by the computer at just the right time and the other allows fuel to be drawn into the low pressure air flow created in the Venturi area of the carburetor just above the butterflies. hi my name is joshua I have a 1982 toyota Corolla station wagon its
carbureted an I want to change it to fuel injection is there anything for
my car an what do you recommend
+Angel Colon, This is directly from the MSD Atomic FAQ page: What’s the smallest and largest CID that can be selected? The Atomic EFI will support engines with as at least 100ci to 800ci (maximum).
+chandler bezner , Yes, you can. Give us a call and we can help walk you through choosing the correct product for your needs. 1-330-630-0240. Thanks for watching!
+Matthew samson,Your Hyundai Tiburon is fuel injected currently and when running properly will have better drivability and fuel economy than a carbureted car!
Good video!, I came here to check out some info on the carbs but the fuel
injection part was a bit vague, let me explain you why . First, you
mentioned that multiport fuel injection injects in "each of the engine's
cylinder" but this is false, this system has its injectors located in " the
intake plenum", only closer to the heads intake valve, so they sit close to
the engine's head. Secondly, you didnt cover the single point fuel
injection which has his injectors placed almost right after the throttle
body or bodies, way further from the engine's head, so less precise and the
air-fuel has the time to get hot so the multi port, is more efficient.
Finally, you didn't cover the "direct injection system" that has the
ability to inject fuel directly in the "combustion chamber". The challenge
here was to make injectors able to withstand immense pressures and high
temperatures , High pressure fuel injectors and High pressure fuel pumps
(2000psi and + sometimes) are required to complete such a task due to the
high compression engines (12:5:1 +) or due to forced fed cars( lower
ratio(8:5:1)) and are extremely expensive to replace!
+Benjamin Beliard , Thank you for your feedback. However, this is one of our 101 videos that is very basic and for beginners. We do have other videos available on both carburetors and fuel injection systems. Maybe it is time for a Carburetor vs Fuel Injection System part 2 video. Once again, thank you for watching and for your input!
I'm interested in putting the Edelbrock Pro Flo EFI system in my Town Car.
I'm building a 347 for it. What type of cam, would be recommended for that
setup?
+Aaron Pedersen , Because of the heavy weight of the vehicle and the need for a steady vacuum signal for the EFI system, a cam that the industry refers to as “high-torque – towing” would be best. Give us a call with the motor build specs and we can help you pick out what’s best! 1-330-630-0240. Thanks for watching.
+casimirobuenabista , Yes, the potential is there depending on the kit you chose. Give us a call and we can help you pick out the correct one! 1-330-630-0240. Thanks!
+Cyril Willard Cable Either one can get you to the same power but with different modifications to get there. But injectors can inject wayyyy more gas way quicker than any carburetor i'm aware of. But too much gas isn't good either...
