I chose to try a car tire on my Venture. I am currently evaluating it and will determine if it stays on. So far I have only found good things with it. This is something I ...
So my thought are with the darkside on - You do break better because of
more tire-asphalt contact HOEVER you accelerate slower as well, and also
bike might feel a little 'heavy', or 'tired'.... what are your thoughts? I
am curious.
+Zohar Lindenbaumm I feel no difference in the way the bike accelerates. The bike does not feel heavy or tired. It feels much like a motorcycle tire except more grip.
During the process of installing the tire same as your, the tire blew!
Allegedly at 60 PSI, (not sure of that) during sit inflation. So my
Darkside dream die at this point.
+cash storeone Yes, somebody did for me, so I'm not sure about the pressure. But, that's the case. I read people use Kumho tires inflate to 120 psi. Thanks anyway. May I'll try next time again.
I have heard of tires blowing up, but at 100 psi or higher, not 60psi. Did someone do it for you? If they did, they are probably lying about the tire pressure. The key is to keep the tire warm and well lubed around the rim. I went 93 pounds last time then set the tire in the warm sun. One must be patient. Slowly the bead should seat. After I got over 75 pounds I put a heavy duty carhart jacket over it to absorb an explosion. Again, anyone doing this must realize they are working with initial high pressure to set the bead. If you feel uncomfortable doing that, have someone do it for you, or don't do it at all.
I just bought a tire like your. I going darkside. Usually I replace my
rear MC tire Dunlop each 7,000 miles. I have 75,000 miles in my Venture
2006, so make a count of the cost of the tire and mounting. The most borer
me is the risk to replace the MC tire in the middle of the long trip. I
will keep your guys updated. For the information about I got, not will be
any problem.
Well, remember I ride my Venture for long time. I just start adapt to the Voyager, found is HOT HOT, but powerful. I wait for Yamaha make a 1800 Venture before I die.
Probably not, but if you can find a tire that fits, you may want to give it a try. I have heard that there are tires for some of the smaller rims. Perhaps, with some research you may find a tire that fits.

Take a ride on the Dark Side - Car tire on a motorycle
Excelsior Stahl Sport Radial 5.50R16 on the rear of a 2005 Harley-Davidson Softail Springer Classic. Should get about 30000 miles on this tire, as opposed to ...
+badsanta518 Just keep in mind that it's going to feel a LOT different. On these crap Hawaii roads, however, it's been a blessing. We never get much over 70MPH here, but I'm not a real superslab rider anyway. I like back roads better. This may not be the most stable choice for you if you run 85MPH+ all the time.
+badsanta518, YES, I am. I'm thinking of trying the Excelsior Stahl 5.00R16 next time to reduce the diameter and section width just a smidge and yet get a bit more tread width. Fender bolts do touch the sidewall on occasion, but just scratches - nothing digging in. Coker Tire has more choices now than they did in these sizes. I have about 15000 miles on it now, and it could stand to be changed. Still right at about 1/16" tread in the center, which is borderline, but I keep reminding myself that I can still go a lot longer on the borderline of changing the tire than I ever could with a motorcycle tire. I had a problem with loose spokes that greatly reduced the tread life this time - but it would have ruined a motorcycle tire inside of 120 miles!
@redneck500 You should check on the vulcan chat site to see if your rim
will take a car tire. My stock rim was designed so that it would. The Honda
Valkrie, VTX-1800 and some of the goldwings were designed to be compatable
with a car tire. Good luck. Car tires are cheep and perform really well.
They will out corner a bike tire but you got to have a good set of
shoulders and arms.
@redneck500 Used one for 4 years. They last forever under most conditions
accept for one. I might mention that it is better to use one that is used.
New car tires need to be rounded on the edges a bit. A 205 good year triple
tread works wonders in the winter, they’re great for stopping on wet
pavement but throw a rooster tail about 20’ in the air. The guys behind you
hate it.
Your order please...
Can I have some stupid on stupid with some stupid sauce...
Sure.....
Using a car tire on a motorcycle: Stupid
Doing a Burnout: Stupid
Bleach on tires: Stupid.
Thanks for posting the video. I was at one time completely opposed to the
idea of a car tire on a bike. However, I did it to my supercharged Valkyrie
as a good tire for the drag strip. To my surprise, it worked great
elsewhere. To those nay sayers, dont be so quick to judge. Ive ridden it
hard in the mountains and its done really well. No bad manners to report. I
dont think its for everyone, and i dont think you should use just any tire,
but it shouldnt be dismissed out of hand.
I think I'd rather run a car tire with 10000 miles on it that a motorbike
tire with 10000 miles on it but I may rather have a new m/c tire vs a new
car tire however I'm having trouble with my goldwing in mud, etc. and would
like to get a tire with some traction because you can't get one with
traction for a gl1800! I may get seduced into the "DARKSIDE!" :p
lol, only $20 difference in the price? ROFLMAO, for the cost of one MT I
can get at least 2 maybe 3 CT's that'll last around 20,000 miles each when
a MT would last somewhere between 7,00-13,000. According to the law of
physics, a bumble bee can't fly, but it does.
@55Dudester Ya I actually mounted a 195-60-16 dunlop sp5000 on my vulcan
and its ok, but the only problem is when im going around 75+ I start to get
a wobble, but my PSI is at 40lbs, do you think if I lowered it down, that
would fix that problem?
I run a GoodYear Triple Tread 205-60-16 on a 2006 Honda VTX 1800N. I will
never go back to a MC tire. CT lasts 4 times as long as the MC does...
Don't knock it till you try it... Google Riding on the Darkside if you want
to learn more...
If you dragged the floorboards making that video, then your V-star must not
have any cornering clearance at all. I routinely crank my Intruder 1400
over twice as far as that.
