One thing this awful week has taught us is that the impact of a cartoonist is powerful. If you've had trouble explaining or understanding a complicated view, ...
Not just a black politician, Christiane Taubira. The blue-white-red logo is of the far-right party, Front National. Front National was under attack for comparing Christine to a monkey."Rassemblement Bleu Raciste" or "Blue Racist Gathering" (the title of the drawing) is a pun on Front National's slogan, "Rassemblement Bleu Marine" (Navy Blue Gathering) Front National's leader is Marine Le Pen. (Marine means navy) It's a pun on the slogan. It's attacking Front National for comparing Christiane to a monkey. It might've been in poor taste but it wasn't racist.
+Bill Stender "..is inconclusive" But it's enough information for you to determine the attack against workers at a magazine and the cartoonists is the result of Western imperialism into the Islamic world. Even though it was against a publication and cartoonists who who have been threatened and targeted in the past by Muslim extremists, stated specifically for religious reasons dealing with insults to Mohammad and had fatwa's issued against them for same, and the cartoonist was specifically targeted, and the terrorists were in fact Muslim, and in fact known to have been radicalized. And I'm sure Charlie Hebro was the perfect target to demonstrate how the attack is perpetrated against Western imperialism, right? And for which you have exactly zero evidence for, yet that's what you believe. What they say is indeed evidence. Which is more than what you have. You have bupkis except for your personal feelings.Nor does the fact that they were masked mean anything, since Muslims come in all races since it's a religion and we know who they were anyways. You do understand they caught them and killed them, and they know who they were? And what exactly does the fact that they spoke perfect french have to do with it? France has a very significant Muslim population. French is spoken in many countries, including Arab countries. And the fact that they spoke perfect French means absolutely nothing towards motive. There are Muslims being radicalized in virtually every country in the world, including France.Pardon me if I prefer to actually be concerned with what actually happened, and what we actually know, as apposed to making up possible motives out of thin air that isn't supported by a shred of evidence.Oh, and - SQUIRREL!!!
+Mike Davey you suggest; ''what do the extremists Muslims own words mean, right? I suppose they are yelling counter factual propaganda while killing their victims, in order to spread disinformation.''Wait a minute, you don't agree that it is completely easy and rational to put the blame elsewhere after killing 12 people? You're saying they were Muslim terrorists so of course they yelled this. But really you're saying they were Muslim terrorists because they yelled this. I'm saying whatever 2 masked men say (in perfect French) is inconclusive.
“Strange, yes. Unclear? Hardly. They made their reasons very clear” – it shall be noted that the stated reasons are, inevitably, a small part (if at all) of the actual reasons (which cannot even be precise if they don't include social mechanics of relevant groups, especially the convicning that was going on).
I might tend to agree, except for the fact that they keep saying they are doing it for their God, Muhammad and Islam. As well as the well documented export world wide of extremist Islam from Saudi Arabia and Iran. And the fact that the majority of victims of extremist Islam are Muslims who are considered "not real Muslims" by the extremists. And I'm pretty sure those cartoonists had nothing to do with the invasion of any Islamic country or people. But I guess, what do the extremists Muslims own words mean, right? I suppose they are yelling counter factual propaganda while killing their victims, in order to spread disinformation.Makes perfect sense.
I feel the same way +Abe Pectol I think the whole; "they hate our freedoms" idea is barely plausible only if taken with a good dose of racism and denial. Millions of dead Muslims on the other hand, often one's entire family, or the puppet dictators we've installed, or the brutal occupation we support in Israel are much more compelling realities that are avoided in the discussions of "why". Basically, we've waged war and oppression over there for a century, we use notions of untermenschen to avoid the harsh truth.
Strange, yes. Unclear? Hardly. They made their reasons very clear. So does ISIS. So did the group who murdered a school full of children and teachers. They all made their reasoning very clear. They did it for their God.
What if I said... that freedom of speech is irrelevant [here] and the only notable problem is people doing major harm to other people for unclear strange reasons?
I think a useful discussion would be what is and is not an appropriate
consequence of free speech. The people who attacked *Charlie Hebdo* were
not censors acting on behalf the French government. So, where is the line
that should not be crossed? Losing friendships, losing a job, having a
speaking engagement cancelled, having a comment removed, losing a youtube
channel, all seem appropriate if warranted.
Violence or threat of violence is not appropriate, ever.
Great video and great rant.
Interesting video about a socially - charged subject. However it only
address the issue from one perspective. How about the view from a
copyrightrd content developer who stands to lose money on intellectual
property stolen due to piracy.
Doot de doo, browsing the web...oooo! A THUNK video! I wonder what it's about??? -Links for the Curious- The relevant xkcd cartoon - //xkcd.com/356/ ...
is there anyway fans could email/send u stuff. I get lost in drawing easily
wasting 4 hours at a time before realizing i havent moved from my tablet.
Getting zoned in feels great, it's just finding the right inspiration or
challenge to get there is the trouble. After a while it gets easier to
manufacture that same inspiration that used to come naturally in infrequent
bursts.
My Gmail address is on-screen in the last 5 seconds of the video, if you get the inclination! :)It is interesting that many professional authors cite a regimented daily routine for writing that produces a better end-product than faffing about until inspiration hits - kinda in vein with what you're suggesting about "manufacturing inspiration."
