CrimsonSpectre, I respect what you said here, but as far as the Japanese Americans who. in 1942, were incarcerated in the "internment camps" (committing no crime(s), were concerned, they were not only American citizens, most of them (like my parents),had actually been born in the U.S., and not merely "let in" here...no different from other immigrants like the Italian Americans, German Americans, etc., except the JA's, were put in those dreadful "camps" and the others were not.

+Barry Brodsky You are a very wise man, Barry...the reason the 442nd was comprised of all Japanese-Americans was because no other soldiers other than Japanese-Americans would fight along side of them. The distrust and bigotry was still alive and well against the Japanese-Americans, even after their own country (and yes, I mean the United States) imprisoned all Americans of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast of the U.S., in interment camps for no crime, other than that of their ancestry. The fact that those Japanese-American soldiers enlisted in the U.S. Army at all after being put away with their families in those wretched camps, is amazing, let alone what they sacrificed in casualties in the war. By the way... my Dad, Willy Kai, received the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal for his service in the U.S. Military Intelligence Service, 2 years before he passed away, and his name is inscribed in the wall with other heroes of WWII at the Go For Broke Monument in Los Angeles.

FDR had a difficult time. The country, mainly those on the west coast, were jittery about Japanese Americans. True, even in 1939 there was rally in favor of Nazis, in Madison Square Gardens, NY. Still it was Japan, not Germany, that waged war against America directly. Many politicians at that time, were isolationists, and were against war. And those who were for war, would rather be against the Japanese. FDR had to go along with them for a short while; he had many other priorities. When FDR finally got a chance, he got the Japanese Americans enlisted to make sure that they could prove themselves like any other Americans. During those days USA was waking up from a long slumber of isolationism; not like today,.
