In the Key of Genius: Derek Paravicini and Adam Ockelford at TEDxWarwick 2013
Born prematurely at just 25 weeks, Derek Paravicini has suffered from blindess, learning impairment and severe autism for his entire life. Despite his impairment ...
I have it. I'm here to tell you, I learned quickly that if you have it you're no savant. NO, I'm not saying Derek isn't a genius, he totally is. PP doesn't MAKE someone a savant. Among the general populace, yes it's rare. Among musicians, not really.
Derek, you are an amazing musician!!! I have a piece of music in my head,
and I can play in on my guitar, piano, saxophone, trumpet, mellophone,
french horn, clarinet, violin, mandolin, banjo, button accordion or
harmonica or steel guitar or dobro but I can't remember what the name of
the song is. If I could somehow play it for you, I'll bet you would know it
and I'm sure you could play it better than I can. Maybe I can play it on
one of instruments and put it on youtube for you to listen to and you can
tell me what song it it. OK?
+Eazdtv He has his own web-page and is on goggle plus, other people read them for him.Ah, I've just looked at your page, now I realise how little talent you have or recognise in others. What's it like living in the forth Reich?
I feel so bad for Derek because he has no idea what a musical genius he is.
He is like a trained puppy. He listens, he sits, he wags his tail, and he
plays the piano. He doesn't even act like he enjoys it. He just does it,
like a robot! If his "teacher" makes millions traveling around with him
and displaying his talent, what good does it do Derek? He probably has no
concept of how much he is worth. God bless him and watch over.
+Linda W. Rushing Adam his teacher taught my MA. He does not make "millions" off Derek - he's an esteemed scientist in his own right based on his work with using music in teaching (and especially with autism etc.) - look him up! He is a wonderful person who really cares about his students and especially Derek who awes everyone with his fantastic dry humour and interest in the world around him. As far from a trained puppy as someone with his mind can be, and an absolute joy to play with/be around :) And trust me he ejnoys playing - he just doesn't have overt body/facial language.
+thetasurfers Well now that he's done TED, our reality crafters version of the pimped out cultural gang bang without a money shot, maybe he can work with more philosophers to help us figure out the role of music in our Quantum Reality and the innate ability to connect with source in all of us.
+thetasurfers The problem is he's autistic so it's not like he express it very well plus the fact that he is blind, but yes he does deserve a lot more musical credit that he is bein given
+thetasurfers I have been thinking the same. Derek's genius deserves better than the 'freak show' slot. Line him up with other musical masters and great things will emerge.
