+REE THOMAS While i do agree she has been opening with higher and higher for years (5 years) and im not to fond of that song myself, Aretha does, each year she goes on tour change of up the set list ( so no every show is not different but every tour is different), I saw her last year and she included Ain't nothing like the real thing and sparkle, and yes if you watch her shows from the last few years she does indeed change up her tours I would know because I see her everytime she comes to my town and while she opens with Higher and always include Respect and Chain of Fools, she can't sing all of her hits but each year she does incorporate different songs in the set list. Everyone knows her range is not where it was but that does not mean she should not sing her hits, they are still HER hits, and no she cant do it like she used to but she is still a great singer. The whitney hosuton tribute was done over and over because it was apart of the show for that particular tour, notice she doesn't do that anymore and she for years has alwats paid homage to singers by doing a version of their song. I guarantee you the next time you see her o tour   she'll incorporate something else like Dr. Feelgood and take out something like Sweet Sixteen, but for the remainder of this tour she'll continue to do the same songs she did in this show

ARETHA ALWAYS uses the same songs.  She has been opening with the same Jackie Wilson song for the past 10 yrs and she sings it even when she visitis a city that she has been 2 over and over.  Its the same few songs and most dont fit her range today.  She can handle some songs like Jump To It, Get It Right, and Dr. Feelgood but she always tries to sing songs she doesnt sound good on like I remember by Keisha Cole when she could have sung 2 of her other songs.  She was doing the Whitney Houston thing over and over and she sings the first verse and stops.  So that "she ways brings a new show" isnt true.

+Whitney Fan It was more like 1 to 3 packs a day, depending what she was going through in her personal life. She did start to smoke a LOT after her father was shot, and that is exactly the period you are referring too... as of 1979...up to 1992 or so when she decided to give up. Even in her heyday when her voice was both clear and powerful, she did smoke at least 1 pack a day. To the point where Ahmet Ertegün the founder of Atlantic Records would tentatively tell her : "Aretha don't you think  you've been smoking too much..; you will hurt your health and your voice." Still she must have had vocal chords totally out of the ordinary to have a voice left at her age, after all her instrument has gone through.

Yikes 3 packs of cigarettes a day? How can anyone smoke that many cigerettes in a day? I believe it though because it showed in her voice back in the 80's.
