Those tips are easily put on or taken off. If you take them off, the exhaust looks normal, and as for the clearance with the tips on; I offroad very frequently and they have never caused any problems or have gotten crushed. Even after rock crawling, these tips were fine. I have since lifted my jeep and the size of the tips look much better now.
Yes, I didn't remove anything else besides the old muffler

Hey there! I just wondering if my 2012 silverado crew cab towing my brand
new rv around 6k lbs? what it will happen? gonna be very loud when towing
my rv with 6k lbs?
@Jared Gunn yea it'll be loud. Gibson doesn't recommend this exhaust if hauling a lot over distances. I pull a 6x10 loaded with around 2k lbs n it's Def an attention drawer.
It is louder with a droneish tone w v4. I personally hate v4 so I use either m5 on gears or the range afm delete module for steady v8 to keep nice rumble and that crap v4 from turning on. Over time the v4 does more harm than good with oil consumption
+Marty Pleviak I had the stock exhaust off in one piece and the whole new system Installed in about and hour and a half/2 hours. I disconnected battery before I started. No codes. The stock exhaust sucks it has huge muffler, a flapper a resonater severely chokes the truck. You'll be happy it sounds awesome and gains are worth it
+J_Sledgehammer- I've watched so many of theses videos and love the sound for half the price of borla and MagnaFlow. I used headphones and then didn't use them and it just sounds so bad ass on the new trucks!! I would do the cold air intake like you said next. how long did it take you to install your system? did it throw any check engine lights on at all with the piping being so much larger than stock?
+Marty Pleviak I pull a 6x10 trailer usually loaded with about 2k lbs of scrap. It's rather hilly in my area I get around 10-12 mpgs (cuz of hills) no trailer etc I've gotten up to 24 highway usually 17/18 city. The only problem is the power gain and sound of the exhaust makes it hard to keep foot out of throttle. The only other down side is if your truck goes into v4 (not having a tune, or a range afm delete module to keep in 8) sounds like a Subaru. Id recommend headers and Cai as well really wakes the truck up.
+J_Sledgehammer - what fuel mileage did you see when towing anything? What's the highest mpg you got with this exhaust system? I'm looking at getting it.
+Marty Pleviak I have the double cab with the 6.6 bed. I believe the crew can with the shorter bed is same dimensions. I think there's 3 sizes. I have another video posted few days ago after header install got a little louder.
@MartyPleviak my mpgs increased about 2 mpg. The hardest part is keeping foot out of throttle. The setup really made a HUGE performance difference.
