+Bivolari Again, they only had a short amount of time to cover all of the subway cars, especially for a 30 minute television show with no commercials. This is also why the R68s were not talked about at all as well.
IRT are the numbered lines. 1,2,3,4 etc. cars are much shorter and have 3 doors on each side not 4 like the letter trains. Also the curves on the number routes are much sharper. If you put a letter train on a number line it would derail easily.
IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit Company) and BMT (Brooklyn Mass Transit) where competing companies at the time. There also was a third company IND (Independent Line). The way that IRT built there line IND cars can NOT fit in their tunnels.

New York Subway Recycling "Subways to Seaweed" -Panasonic ecoideasnet
Disposing of old subway cars in the ocean creates habitats for marine life and supports recreational fishing. New York City Transit has provided more than 2500 ...
There are plenty of people out there who would have taken this to off their
hands to scrap for cash. The cost to transport these carts to a scrap yard
would have been much less than taking them out into the ocean. That being
said, this wasn't just a cheaper alternative to getting rid of old
equipment. The only thing left to argue is how much is it actually helping
the environment. Removing all the harmful contaminants has been done, but
all the mining all my smelting involved to make this metal will have to be
done again. Is recycling metal through a scrap yard better than digging up
the Earth for new elements? Hah, not quite. The recycling process still
contaminates the air before the metals can even be distributed and reformed
into new equipment. Not to mention how much of the Earth it takes to bury,
smelt, redistribute, or just hold the waste. Either way it's a lose - lose
situation. Practically unavoidable, unless we all agree to live in tree
houses for the rest of mankind. This is just awesome! Hope I get the chance
to dive down someday and see this!
Yeah pretty much, i think a vaster sea is better than more pollutants in our air
