Tesla Model S P85D vs Mercedes-Benz E63s AMG Drag Racing 1/4 Mile

All that needless belching and billowing and polluting... only to lag
behind. LMAO. Like listening to some guy in the gym moan and groan and
scream. You turn around and he's lifting 50 pounds. Gasoline engines seem
like dinosaurs next to the Tesla. All the repairs - hoses, belts,
transmissions, mounts, heating, oil, coolant, leaks - and for what?
+Benny BMore like 240 miles, sans the pollution. I don't drive that distance in a single day, so she can charge at home once or twice a week w/o ever having to go to any type of staion. If I decide to go the distance, Tesla knows where the charging stations are already. I program my destination and she knows when to reroute me for charging. ..and guess what. The charging won't cost me any more. You'll be looking for the cheapest gas station. When I arrive at my mountain cabin, wanna know how I charge? The saw way I power my microwave... with the electricity wired into the cabin. Teslas have a lot fewer moving parts to go wrong and need repair. That's just a statement of fact. Don't take it personally or let it bother you.
Run an endurance race, or simply a lap around a track between an E63 and a
Tesla P85D or substitute in a CTS V or BMW M5 and watch what happens. In a
one lap race the Tesla will get off the line quicker and then slowly fall
behind after the first corner. In an endurance race, the Tesla will either
overheat, the tires will self destruct, or it will simply run out of
energy. While the Model S is a big step for electric cars, it is no match
for a true sports sedan
+PKPhoenix83 I'm not sure it will overheat, I've seen them run on the autobahn at high speeds without any problems. I know it's not the same as a race, but it's still very impressive. The tires have nothing to do with being electric or not. You can put high performance tires on the Tesla as well. And how can the Tesla run out of energy first, if it has an electric motor? Electric motors have close to 100% efficiency, while ICE have 20-30% at best. The reason the Tesla may not have the same range as an ICE, is because it has very little energy on board, compared to the energy in the fuel in a BMW for example. But it uses it much more efficiently, while the BMW is throwing away 75% of the energy. It's as if 75% of the fuel is just dead weight. The BMW will go through it's full tank of gas very fast at high speeds and accelerations.
+LotosHans The Tesla has a single reduction gear....and wins. Now imagine it had a 2-gear-box. Then again, it doesn't need it. It won. So, what exactly do you mean by "f***ed"?
+LotosHans Does not win against these super cars, but fucked is definitely not the right word. I've seen how fast it can reach 155mph, and it's very fast. It has super car acceleration from 0-60, but still has great car acceleration beyond that, on par or better than other cars in it's price range. It will beat the normal non-AMG mercs.
the tesla is a great car, but in germany you really need the top speeds of
155mph (daily), especially in a business car. if tesla manages to get that
done, the model s will become a real competitor against the german premium
cars.
Tesla: Honey, can you and your mom, dad and our 3 kids wait for me at the
end of the line, I will pick you guys up there, we will go dinner right
after I kick The E63 ass, oh wait there is a Hellcat need the ass kick,
shit there also a Ferrari 458.
+azalru What was the purpose of that link? I already know that the LC is not available until 500 miles, just like it is on the Scat Pack and SRT8...If you read more into those forums you will see that Launch Control actually produces slower times and the guys with the records were not using it.
+DTRU122283 //www.hellcat.org/threads/launch-control-dos-and-donts-how-and-how-not.3996/What a pos, its easier to launch an aventador the first time in corsa mode. With the P85D,Rimac, and Regera you just need to floor it anytime.Launch control is used for max torque//www.edmunds.com/dodge/challenger/2015/road-test.htmlThe Hellcat driver did use launch control and with slicks he got 10.8 seconds. The P85D does mutiple track runs with out any ongoing power limitations, and neither did the P85 have a problem on the drag strip. The software limits the top speed to 130, along with top end performance. 400 kW is 533 hp. Its Tesla's plan to roll out OTA performance updates along with autopilote updates to improve the car, especially before the P85D hits Germany in the May. When validation and testing is done along releasing the performance updates it shows that they did risk management. 515kW is equal to 691 hp , which gets the P85D to 2.7 seconds 0-60, higher accelerating top end, to 155mph.
+azalru Man its cringe worthy how misinformed you are..The only power limitation on the P85D is so that it will not overheat or die after one track run. Yes if you took out all limitations you could go faster in the quarter, then you would be completely dead and not be able to drive your $100k car home..The only reason the Hellcat owner was humiliated is that he jumped the red light and immediately lost the race. Tesla nut huggers want to take this like it was a real race and the Tesla won, which is false. You could learn a thing or two.. Using street legal tires that cost just the same as the stock tires is not cheating. If your trying to claim that it is not stock vs stock so its not fair then you compare the 11.2 certified time vs the 11.6 WORLD RECORD for the P85D and it still loses...He also did not use launch control. Like I said Launch Control actually makes you go slower as it limits the power and applies the brakes. Hellcats are hitting 11 flat on stock tires and 10.48 on street legal tire upgrades with NO launch control, Sport mode suspension and Traction Control fully off.
+DTRU122283 Its power limited, so yes it does. With 533 hp the P85D humiliated the green hellcat owner. You could learn a thing or two from his mistakes and practice runs. Which came at 10.8 secs 1/4 mile with cheating tires and launch control. If he did a 5 mph rollout he would lose terribly again.
+azalru Your exact quote "The P85D gets to over a 100 mph in 9 seconds and thats with its top speed locked."Its top speed being locked has nothing to do with it.. Since its not reaching its top speed..The Tesla's world record run is 11.6 and trapped 115, the Hellcat traps anywhere from 126-133
+azalru Launch control actually hurts quarter mile times... So the 5mph roll would still go to a Hellcat. The 10.4 -11.2 times that the Hellcat gets is without Launch Control.
+azalru "The current top speed is 130. That's not 115." Can you read? The gauge says 480. //my.teslamotors.com/forum/forums/p85d-power-limited-480kw643hp
+Umar Khan You were saying 115, and no it says 400 kW, which is 533 hp. They never reached 480. Learn to read more. With 533 hp the P85D still beats the Rs7 in performance.
+azalru lmao I said the top speed is 130mph. It says 643 horsepower or 480 kW on the p85D and it does produce 691hp at the crank which you should know about. It produces more power than the RS7.
+Umar Khan 311 kw on the power gauge convertd to 416 hp on the P85. 360-400kw on the power gauge converts to 533 hp on the P85D."The current top speed is 115. Not 115." No shit, you are the one saying the top speed is 115 anyway. For less hp than an Audi rs7, it still accelerates better off the line than porsche 918. And gets good 1/4 times despite being power limited and no performance updates for the top end.
+azalru The current top speed is 130. That's not 115. People are getting 436 HP out of a standard P85 which I would expect the rear wheels to produce with a bit more grunt on the P85d and then the front makes up the over 150 or so.
+Umar Khan Check the current top speed before the P85D gets shipped to germany in May.It has 533 hp on an AWD dyno, and being able to go 2.7 secs 0-60 with higher top end performance requires testing and safety checks.
+azalru If that's the case then it should get to way over 115mph by the end of just over 11 seconds. The top speed is over 130mph and last time I checked that's not the same value as 115mph. Why isn't the full 691hp unlocked and if it is locked then how can it be used on a dyno?

+Amstuned you guys are awesome. Much respect for responding. Unlike CTD you guys let your product do the talking. Wish you guys the best. Loving the E63.
Very nice! I think you were also running there last week, right? I was
running the red BMW 335i. If the rain holds out I'll be there on Saturday
for the final race day of the season.
+TheSlowride81 I don't know about being a rocket, but it's getting there. If things go as planned I'll upgrade the turbos this winter and shoot for 10's. See you next season.
+Anthony Wheelus Thanks for the comment, 10/31/15 was my only trip to Beech Bend. i saw that Red Rocket of yours make a pass nice set up! i can't make it Sat however cant wait until next season.
