I too LOVE smaller displacement bikes! It's tons of fun to ride a smaller
bike to it's 'limits', and have to shift and work the gearbox often! I
have many bikes myself, but have the most fun riding my classic HONDA MB5
(2-stroke, 50cc, 5-speed, 55 MPH) or my Piranha 'Flashback' 125cc (CT70
clone, 4-speed that hits 62 MPH)! I cannot even begin to tell you the
stares and 'thumbs up' I get, and the great conversations i've had with
other bikers and curious onlookers, when riding these small bikes. I've
all but forgotten my 600cc and 750cc bikes! LOL
Yep, by mid winter I plan to have exhaust, tune, computer flash (for rev
limiter change), cam, big bore kit, and maybe even valves/head all
replaced. I'm aiming for a top speed of 80-85 so I can comfortably maintain
60-65 uphill into the wind without tucking in close to the tank. I want to
sit up and maintain slow highway travel so that I can take the bike out to
close cities like Topeka or Wichita.
There are many people that are interested in the Grom that would be happier
on the 250 Ninja or CBR. The Grom is excellent, but if you find yourself
asking about it's maximum speed of travel, then it's probably not the best
choice for you. I'd really dig a CBR250R or 250RR, but this Grom is such a
blast as well. I love small bikes with tiny engines!
I honestly didn't expect the Grom to be able to go any faster than 55mph.
So it's pretty cool to see it would be able to do small highway trips. I'd
love to get a Grom but can't justify it since I own a Ninja 250 and don't
currently own a car.
It won't maintain 55 on decent sized hills. It did go 65 stock, but with my
mods it does a much better job maintaining speed but I wouldn't have bought
it if I had to ride a 55 and hilly road everyday.
Was the top speed always around 65 or did u do other mods? I'm deciding
whether I wanna get a grom looks so cool but some roads near me are 55 n
hilly.
