I agree that the wealthy aren't as troubled by the waste, but why is that?
My intuition says it's because they've got bigger things to worry about.
But it's the same conundrum as the observed waste of firms having monopoly
power. Why doesn't the profit motive make them (monopoly firms) push their
workers as hard as perfectly competitive firms? Similarly, there's no
explanation in rational choice theory for why the wealthy wouldn't be as
vigilant about policing waste in schools.

I believe, together we stand and divided we fall ! The rhetoric of the
uber Libertarians and the new digital agers gives the illusion that we can
survive as a country as a bunch of individuals. We can't and must look out
for each other and stand together. Guys like Williamson think there is a
single way to govern people ... There isn't. Let them eat cake, Kevin.
If the economy crashes I'm TAKING the gold, I'm not going to be the slave of a new system of old money. If the rich think I won't kill their kids for the gold they're wrong. People who fancy themselves survivalists think gold will protect them, it won't, I will slaughter the most innocent to survive. I'm a whole different kind of animal and its not something I take pleasure in, but I'm not going lay down to be kicked, I'll take my chances using brute force to acquire my wealth. They should be asking themselves, do they love their children more than they hate us? Because those are the ones I will make suffer first, game time will be at an end.
