You'd have the actress to it again without putting her arm in, just dipping down with her knees. That way you've got a clean plate to reveal behind the mask & the shadows line up like they should. It's the kind of thing that you have to know you'll need before shooting it, or it would be really difficult to recreate that background in post.

I really really want to know exactly how they masked out hermione's infinite bag. I get how you rotoscope the arm out, but then how do you put in an exact moving background behind something that covers it up in the original clip? Please let me know!!!

cloned it out in post. You either use a still or some footage of her before she reaches in and use that for the clone source or just use the frame previous to each visible frame as the clone source.

You mean without CGI. Special effects =/= CGI. Maybe they could but it would take much more time on set and probably wouldn't look that good, not mentioning the most important factor - money.

Thank you for uploading this. It's amazing how much content in many of the shots I wouldn't have guessed were added CG props.

https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-BqN0QRmurvY/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/RuOq_1E9nZ4/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
how did they delete emma's arm and restore the background space where she reaches into the beaded bag?
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-Cxurz0tLv5w/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/hS5kYe2Z7qs/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
By "effects" I meant visual effects. Oh well, I will admit it turned out looking great.

https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-Cxurz0tLv5w/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/hS5kYe2Z7qs/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
It seems like they coulda done a lot of this without effects...

i want to get in to cgi but its so dang expensive. like really how the hell do these people get like 10,000 dollars for all these software's before they are actually in the business. If someone can tell me other than school i can go to get some help on this i would really appreciate it, lol.

Blender is a great piece of software. While it maybe isn't as powerful as professional packages used by the industry (though it comes really close), it has a very wide 3d feature set, and is capable of pretty much anything. Learning cgi isn't actually at all expensive nowadays, as many developers offer software for free if used for non-commercial and educational purposes. So you can get professional packages such as maya, 3ds max, Houdini as well as compositing software like fusion as well as nuke, which is releasing the educational license soon. But yes it's true it doesn't really matter which software you use... except if you're looking for a career in the actual industry, as studios have their de facto industry standards and without proper knowledge of these commercial packages, you'll have a hard time finding a job. Hope this helped!

+Tyler Gamez If you want to do work in post production it's more about what you can do than it is what software you use... Software is just a tool. Like building a house, doesn't matter what hammer you're using. Learn to use one, you'll pretty much know em' all
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--_KDj4K6mpQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAA1o/_22Frrhs3O8/photo.jpg?sz=64
+That Random Guy good point... i think everyone should do that first to.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-S4g-NMy_FJ8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGo/ezZJaf4-gvI/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tyler Gamez Just learn blender first. It's easy to use and once you get the hang of it you can learn a specialty. Then go to maya or 3ds max. It'll take a week to get familiar with the interface and then you're ready to make a portfolio and go from there. (it'll take around 3 to 4 years depending on how fast you learn).
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--_KDj4K6mpQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAA1o/_22Frrhs3O8/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Khimil no you are absolutely wrong, i say once you learn all the terms and capabilities of a 3d software you should find a good 3d software. then stick with that software to protect your art! :D

+Stormlord kick ass torrents
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tyler Gamez It's better to learn the basics of 3D, modeling, shading, camera tracking, compositing and stuff like that in blender3D than it is not learning them at all. Besides it's not the program, it's what you use it for. It's good practice to know how to bend your tools. After that, apply for school and/or internship at some post facility. I heard that Autodesk (3dsmax, smoke, maya etc) gives out free software for educational purposes.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-RhrW0ptkAug/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAOE/NFTlaiNcv74/photo.jpg?sz=64
I encourage you to pirate the software you want to learn, its pointless paying out for software until your actually at level with it to make money. Once your competent and are making commercial work then its only fair you do purchase it. No one will know whether your VFX is created in cracked software so your point invalid. Clients don't care they just want quality results and if you worked in a company you would be given access to a genuine version.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0vZsnIHB-Dc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAFU/yhYsdkdA5cQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tyler Gamez... got taken down.Anyhow if you wnat to stael the programs, then it's your ass if you get caught,Also good luck with submitting the VFX done in cracked software...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0vZsnIHB-Dc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAFU/yhYsdkdA5cQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tyler GamezWell, then you better gouge out that 10.000$ for a program that does not "suck ass etc".
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--_KDj4K6mpQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAA1o/_22Frrhs3O8/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Stormolord blender sucks ass, hate the renderer, the interface, the look, half the capabilities as a regular payed software and more.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0vZsnIHB-Dc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAFU/yhYsdkdA5cQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
