Great Video! I'm getting ready to replace ball joints and tie rod ends,
referb drive shaft cvs, and weld in a Artec truss kit, JKS steering brace
install. I think you saved me some headache after watching this video I
have decided to remove the knuckles prior to pulling the axle out. As a
side note what tie rod setup do you have on your jeep?
FITS ALL 2007 thru 2012 WRANGLERS *** TeraFlex JK HD Ball Joints replace the factory ball joints that are unable to handle the demands of repeated off road ...
I use the Superior Axle and Gear Axle Seals. They have a rubber grease
holder on them. There is no greasing the stock axles. Just clean them while
they are out and that's it. I used standard bearing grease on the Axle
Seals.
For people complaining about the cussing, omg everyone cusses! It's car
repair, aside from being a sailor or boatyard mechanic, auto repair is the
most annoying ass activity you can do. I challenge anyone to not cuss while
changing a ball joint. The narrator is just being himself.
+Brian Van Patten It wouldn't be a Bullshitkorner video without the cussing. He's my go to videos for Howto on my heep.Disappointed he didn't crack a beer in the end though haha.
+Brian Van Patten LOL just last night i went on a walkabout for 10 min in my shop that was a tirade of vocal cord-straining swearing/screaming bc I couldnt find my small jack. I was mixing up cuss combos like Floyd Money-Mayweather. HAH! Jokes on me I left the jack in my truck after doing a job the day before. I didnt apologize to the jack after though cuz I dont play that.Stay gold.
+Brian Van Patten I'm glad someone else understands as well. I get trolls all the time on my channel telling me that my swearing makes me look stupid and that I should have more dignity and pride and what have you. I grew up in a blue collar family where my grandparents raised me. Grandpa was retired navy then went on to retire from Caterpillar where he was a machinist and a boilermaker. I went on to the Navy and was a machinist mate on helicopters and I still work for the Navy but now as a civilian contractor inspecting the helicopters I use to work on. My profanity comes with the background and the jobs I have had and am in. You as a sailor and ship yard mech know how us sailors cuss. If we speak a 3 word sentence...2 of those words are curse words. I've never cussed at doing ball joints cause I've never had to do them yet, but when I use to install 788 pound gear boxes and 6 drive shafts with 2 more gear boxes in between...there were bad words said HAHAHA...so I know where you're coming from with swearing comes with the type of work. Swearing doesn't decrease my knowledge, doesn't decrease my pride in self, doesn't decrease my professionalism. It's just a part of me and who I am. I just turn it off when I get home from work or get done doing a project cause I have a little 3 year old and a catholic southern bell wife from Kentucky and she don't like it.
+Brian Van Patten Armchair mechanics don't see that side because they never actually go and turn a wrench to understand lol
How-To replace Dana 30 and 44 Ball Joints part 1 of 3 (removal with cheap press)
Part 1 of 3 on how to replace Dana 30 or Dana 44 Ball Joints. This vid deals with removing the ball joints from the axle with a cheap press that can be rented for ...
I have a bone to pick with you. Working on Jeeps is not rocket science.
Pulling the axles is not a difficult task. This is a tutorial on how to
pull the ball joints. It is implied that you have made it down to the
joints before you try to pull them. Matt is just trying to help. His
information is a lot more useful to fellow Jeepers than your constant
bitching and carrying on. Please, kindly get lost. Also, learn to spell and
use grammar on at least a fourth grade level before posting comments.
Great video Matt! I have yet to find one video on the internet that gives
good information on ball joints like yours does. This has been exceedingly
helpful just like all of your videos! I'm a newer subscriber and a now big
supporter! I have immense respect and appreciation for you and your
knowledge of Jeeps. I got an XJ and all of your videos have been a key part
to me figuring out how to make that bad boy run great! Don't stop making
your videos, they are awesome!
Thanks for the vid's. I going through them right now. I agree, there needs
to be more. We need to get the old hands to learn how to use a good video
camera and share their knowledge and experince's. I disagree with you on
being "afraid" of not showing your first effort on removing the ball
joints. You can easily edit out any of the embarrassing parts and just show
us all the good stuff. We missed out. Thanks for sharing your experience's,
we all learn.
I have a huge respect for you and i realize that this is one of you older
video sets, but could you please do an update or edit to these to show the
proper use of the ball joint press(there is no need for the metal stock and
placement of the spacers were off). I know you made it work but in my
opinion i think the general populace who watch you videos should see the
proper implementation. P.S. i love you videos and appreciate all the work
you put in.
Thank you for making these videos, I'm building up my axles and I had
thought it would be a lot tougher than you make it look, thank you for
putting your experiance in front of a camera to make it look easy so the
rest of us without your know how will have the confidence to do our own.
Hey Matt, Thanks for the vids. You walked me through the dreaded tasks of
control arm bushings and track bar issues. Ended up replacing all ball
joints and welded a reinforcement plate behind the steering box. Too many
winters in Boston... Yes , I did subscribe
i only have a much cheaper ball joint press and no way to get a good press
like you used, now i am scared again of attempting this on my own bleepin
jeep without a better press. Maybe a pro doing it would be safer. (JEEP,
Just Empty Every Pocket)
@Mr10inchnail please stop hating in public and then asking for advice in
private messages. There are only 2 pieces of good advice you will get from
me: #1 Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, and #2 don't shit where you
eat.
Matt, thanks for the heads up. I was planning to do the same but it is real
helpful to see the process done first. As to hammering them out........well
you just bent the axle yoke open. See the comment below...LOL Well done.
and you never said that all Dana rears don't need need that crown socket
for the slack adjustment ........ don't get me wrong i got some very useful
info but if your going to start at page 1 at least make it page 1
twas my first video and I didnt think of it till then... also, I have other
videos showing how to remove the axleshafts... Hopefully you can figure out
how to remove the wheel on your own;)
Very Nice Thanks...1997 Dodge 5.9l Cummins...Very Expensive and I had some
of my own ideas, although your project is different it really helped as the
procedure is the same all in all.
I did what worked and I'm not sure it would be any different if I tried it
again. Those autozone presses aren't set up for Jeep knuckles but sometimes
you gotta make do.
What type of upper and lower ball joints do you recommend? Is there any
that are no serviceable or without grease fittings or is there are better
option? Thanks Matt
I pressed up on the upper ball joint like in this video and I ruptured the
ball joint. I had to use a piece that pressed on the outside and not the
shaft.
@Mr10inchnail Check out my other videos to figure out how to remove the
axle shafts. The knuckle comes off with a big hammer or a sledge... Hit
downward!
