Funny to see american car shows. The corvette, nor any other american car
with exception to tesla, is in the conversation for "best car" or "car of
the year".
No offense americans, you make a lot of insanely cool stuff and america is
the most impressive nation on the planet, but your cars are not part of it.
Generally, I agree with your take on American cars. But Car and Driver has long-standing, clearly-stated guidelines for selecting cars that large numbers of people can afford. You won't ever see supercars and uber-luxury cars on this list, even if they are 'better' cars. Honda and Toyota have dominated the 10 Best list over it's 31 year history.Their criteria:1) The vehicle must be on sale by January2) It must be priced below 2.5 times the average car price for that year3) The manufacturer must provide an example for testing4) Only substantially changed vehicles and the past year's 10 best winners are nominatedFtr, the CTS (and ATS) and Corvette, when properly optioned, are terrific driving cars, while the Fiesta STi is essentially a British car.
Depends what your opinion of the best car is. The Corvette provides many things for not much. It is essentially the same idea as the Golf GTI. which also wins a lot of best car of the year awards. The Golf is in no way a better car than lets say a Ferrari California, but a Ferrari California can't be the best car of the year, while the golf is. Try get your head around that, you'll understand.
The new Mazda3 in it's top trim is an absolutely amazing car for the price. I sat in one at the dealership while waiting for my car to be serviced and I was blown away by the quality and looks of the interior for this price. It reminded me a lot of the interior of a BMW 3 series... Not quite a BMW, but insanely beautiful for a $25k car.
The Stingray baby! This car won almost every best award, in the automotive
media. only bested by the CTS V for Motor Trend car of the year. So i'm not
surprise it made the best list here, the SRT Viper havn't won one single
award in a comparo. That should tell you how great the C7 is. One magazine
basically stated the new Corvette is so great that Chevy could sell the car
for far more the price, of 50 to 70 grand.
+Terry DixonIf they could sell the C7 for more than the MSRP, they would. Sales will be strong (and gouging) for a few years, as is always the case with a brand new, redesigned car. A used C7 driven by an old geezer will be a hell of a bargain after the depreciation hit.
